With all the devastation of the 500 year flood we have had I came up with a list of positive things to focus on. There is so much sadness around that it can bring you down.

1. We have our lives, our home and our belongings (so many people have lost everything).
2. Dh and I didn't lose our employent (even though I can't get to mine for a week it's still standing).
3. I already had a stocked pantry and water so I only had to buy some basics at the store.
4. The water bill will have to be lower than normal. There is only one well working so we are all conserving water. No dishes, no laundry, and no showering. (The no showering is a negative though, but at least we are all in the same boat).
5. I'm not spending money on gas for the car because there is no where to go. The store is less than one mile away and that's the only place we've driven to. It sounds like it will remain this bad for a week so I don't think we will drive anywhere this coming week. (Dd's swimming lessons are canceled because the YMCA is flooded. We can't go to the library (downtown library is flooded and they are all on the same computer program so all branches are closed).
6. We have seen the compassion of others. When they put the call out for help to save the well Thursday night over 600 people showed up to sandbag. Many local restaurants are donating food to the emergency workers and the evacuation sites.
