Hello to all and happy (almost) summer!
Sorry I have been MIA the last few days, life has been CRAZY around here and by the time I have a moment to get on the computer, I am completely brain dead. Our teenage houseguest leaves tomorrow (yay!!!!), so life should calm down soon.

I walked the 5 mile loop this weekend, I really needed that for my sanity and felt really good afterwards. I have one month until my little brother's wedding, so I have a goal I need to stay on top of. I would like to do the 5 mile loop twice this week, the 4 mile path a couple of times and my usual smaller walks with family. Yesterday we went to the zoo and just walking around the zoo was over 8,000 steps! Awesome, I think I'll go every week

So, I hope everyone tracked their walking route in miles last week (or paid attention to how far you walked according to the treadmill). I would love to know how long your typical walk is, please share!

Week 3 Challenge: Add some distance to your walking.
Now that you know how far you are walking, add on some distance. I suggest adding 1/4-1/2 mile at a time. This may mean looping around one street in your neighborhood again, going a little farther before you turn around or spending some extra minutes on the treadmill. If you have a loop that you like to walk (as I often do), then add a second small walk into your day, a quick 1/4 mile walk after dinner maybe. You do not have to increase your speed, just gradually increase your distance. If 1/4 mile more is super easy, make it 1/2 mile more the next time. Your body needs to feel like it had a workout, you know if you need push it more.

If you would like to, you can try to work on speed also. Try to do that 1/4 mile more in the same amount of time as before. Stand up straight, use your arms for added monentum, listen to some upbeat music and let it help you increase your speed (a good song always does that for me!). For those of you who are not ready to think about speed yet, no problem, that will be our challenge next week so just focus on staying strong this week.

Check out my other new thread on the Progressive Marathon, I'd love your input.
I hope everyone's weather has improved and you have some good walking weather!
cheers, Elizabeth

We did the same thing!! My parents got us a pass for Christmas and I'm excited to use it as much as possible. It's about a half hour drive for us but DS LOVES it and it's a great workout for DH & I. Anyone who has been to the Cincinnati Zoo knows what I'm talking about! It's so hilly!

I'm back to work this week so I know that I'll be getting in at least a half hour every day but the weather is supposed to be beautiful this week as well so I know we'll be getting in some family walks in the evenings. YAY!

I'm back from vacation and hit the ground walking as soon as I got home. I have done my normal 4 mile loop for the past 2 days. I can walk it in 52 minutes. I think my goal for the week will be to add a little bit to go for a full hour, probably a couple of cul de sacs that will add up to a quarter mile or so.

I posted under wk 2 since you had not gotten this one up yet, but I am doing what you are asking anyway - yeah!

My typical walk by myself is 4 miles. With a partner I will walk almost 6 miles according to www.walkjogrun.com which I use as my baseline instead of the unreliable pedometer that I bought. Then on Saturdays I am starting to walk 8 miles. That is without the walks around the block with the kids while they ride their bikes.

I mentioned in my last post for wk 2 that I was discouraged by the pedometer- It clicked to over 14,000 steps for the day (over 11,000 before 6 am) and logged 5.5 or 6 miles total. Let alone that it made me feel like I sit on my a$$ during a normal day without the long walk in the morning. Someone commented that 10,000 steps should have been 5 miles yet my 11,000+ was 4 miles. For the entire day I think my steps equalled right around 600 calories - what a dissapointment! On the bright side, it makes me realize I need to make my food calories count!

Mind Set - I need to embrace ???- okay I got interrupted by the kids and lost my train of thought. I need to take a vitamin supplement to improve my memory.

I have to admit, I haven't been very consistent with my walks over the past week. The rain finally let up here in Wisconsin last Thursday, and we did get a few family walks in over the weekend, but I still feel discouraged that I can't do more. I'm chained to a desk 8hrs a day, and can really only squeeze in 20 mins between coming home from work and dinnertime. I'm really going to try to start making the weekends count for more. But, that will have to wait until next weekend, as I am throwing a party on Sat. for ds, who turns 2 on Friday. I figure Sunday will be cleanup day. I promise to try harder though!

With my up and down life recently I have been horrible about walking. But I have been working in the garden and i know that counts for something. Hope to be up and going again soon!

It's been 90+ here and I'm dying!!!!! It's NEVER this hot, so my body is feeling it, I have been so so so lazy!! I hope this heat breaks soon so I can get back to my normal walking routine (and my regular activities too ). How do you ladies in the heat do it??? By the time it cools down about 8pm, I am so drained....

I start walking between 5 - 5:30 AM. This morning the ladies I met for the first time started at 6:30 AM. I walked 8 miles and was DYING because of the heat. It was over 95 on the trails when we finished. I drank a lot but still got a headache. The other night I started at 8 PM because it was just too darn hot in the morning (it was still 80). I did tell the ladies I would have to start earlier for our longer walks or I would have to do them at night. The problem will be finding someone to walk at night with me.
