Hello to all and happy (almost) summer!

Sorry I have been MIA the last few days, life has been CRAZY around here and by the time I have a moment to get on the computer, I am completely brain dead. Our teenage houseguest leaves tomorrow (yay!!!!), so life should calm down soon.
I walked the 5 mile loop this weekend, I really needed that for my sanity and felt really good afterwards. I have one month until my little brother's wedding, so I have a goal I need to stay on top of. I would like to do the 5 mile loop twice this week, the 4 mile path a couple of times and my usual smaller walks with family. Yesterday we went to the zoo and just walking around the zoo was over 8,000 steps! Awesome, I think I'll go every week
So, I hope everyone tracked their walking route in miles last week (or paid attention to how far you walked according to the treadmill). I would love to know how long your typical walk is, please share!
Week 3 Challenge: Add some distance to your walking.
Now that you know how far you are walking, add on some distance. I suggest adding 1/4-1/2 mile at a time. This may mean looping around one street in your neighborhood again, going a little farther before you turn around or spending some extra minutes on the treadmill. If you have a loop that you like to walk (as I often do), then add a second small walk into your day, a quick 1/4 mile walk after dinner maybe. You do not have to increase your speed, just gradually increase your distance. If 1/4 mile more is super easy, make it 1/2 mile more the next time. Your body needs to feel like it had a workout, you know if you need push it more.
If you would like to, you can try to work on speed also. Try to do that 1/4 mile more in the same amount of time as before. Stand up straight, use your arms for added monentum, listen to some upbeat music and let it help you increase your speed (a good song always does that for me!). For those of you who are not ready to think about speed yet, no problem, that will be our challenge next week so just focus on staying strong this week.
Check out my other new thread on the Progressive Marathon, I'd love your input.
I hope everyone's weather has improved and you have some good walking weather!
cheers, Elizabeth
