I found a great deal on an elliptical at a garage sale this spring, and so I bought it. Previously, I had just walked on my treadmill 3 or 4 times a week. I have been going for about 40 minutes every other day on my elliptical for the past 2 or 3 months now. I swear, I have not noticed any slim-downs in my body shape, but I HAVE NOTICED MY THIGHS GETTING BIGGER!!!! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

Darn it! I don't want to have bigger thighs--I want slimmer thighs!!!! Has anyone else had this problem? Should I go back to my treadmill? My goal is to reduce my little love-handles/tummy pooch and slim my thighs down a bit. I really don't desire big, muscular thighs!

I'm surprised by that -- I never had a problem with the elliptical making my thighs bigger, unless I was doing some strength training to work on my thighs. I would certainly not give up on it -- that was my main form of exercise before I started running!

Ah, maybe my thighs are getting bigger because of the chocolate bon-bons I sit and eat all day while watching soaps! (just kidding, of course!)

Really, though, I can't figure out why. I do set the resistance at the highest level lately, so maybe that has something to do with the bulking up? I wish I could run on my treadmill, but it was always so hard on my knees when I did try it. I would love to be a runner!

Sounds like it, lower the resistance and try to go an extra few minutes instead. This is why I don't ride a bike....I don't want huge calves....mine are already big and every time I rode a bike, I always felt in in my calves only. I use weights for my legs (thighs), I don't want them big so I do more reps with less weight.

I agree. Try less resistance and increased time instead. More weight (resistance) and less reps usually adds bulk.
