I was a Store Manager for Motherhood with the most excellent benefits package you could imagine! My hubby lost his job, and we relocated because we had too--in the middle of my second pregnancy. They offered me cobra. and gave me until Sept 2nd to decide. Almost $400 for just myself. (better than paying out of pocket for a delivery i know) but now My hubby and daughter let alone the one on the way have NO insurance. I dont know what to do. I'm so stressed. I really wish someone could walk me through what to do next. I have NO idea what to do. I've called places.... Naturally no one will pick me up because I'm 8.5 months preggo. But what do I do about new baby coming? I cant stop crying im so upset.

My husbands work offered him benefits....$600+ a month for a family of 4. We will lose everything if we do it. $600, we just can't.

I'm hoping after the baby comes this will get alot easier. We don't qualify for any medicaid. We just dont.

any advice. anyone know anyone that I can talk to--we are lost! and I could deliver this baby anyday. we are so scared to do cobra but will have too until the end of Sept....I havent been to the doctor in almost a month because I technically dont "have" insurance. and I'm just scared of getting stuck with $10000+ in hospital bills.

Are there any state or local insurance programs that might help?

Seems to me that the $400 or $600 is well worth it considering how much you may owe with delivery bills. I'd check out the county health dept and see what is available for pre-natal/delivery care for those w/ no insurance.

I think the baby is automatically covered under Cobra for birth and everything during that initial hospital stay (please double check!) . I know it doens't help much, but at least you'd be covered for delivery.

As for your dd, she might be able to qualify for Flordia Kid Care. My sil used that when her dh lost his job a few yrs back, even if your dh is now employed she might qualify. (worth inquiring about)

I agree with Shell Cobra should cover the birth as its just an extension of your old insurance right?

Good luck

You need Cobra right now. I wouldn't even consider not getting it.

Wow. When I typed that I was seriously having a hormonal crazy crying fit. I realize that $600 is a bargain ....compared to the real cost of child birth. but let me clarify...there is no $600 lol.

Ah, if only I would of planted that money tree!

Applied for kidcare today too! I had a brochure..I think we are over the income qual. but its worth a shot. I also applied for Florida's pregnant women care...again income, but all we can do it pray!!!
Oherwise Cobra is our godsend!!

Thanks ladies!

You could also call your local Planned Parenthood for advice, as they know about resources.

In addition, you could call the hospital and explain the situation. They often have caseworkers that have knowledge and access to resources. You HAVE to have your baby, and you have to use a hospital for safety reasons (unless you are in a position to do a real home birth!!). If one hospital has no answers, call another.

Your new baby will be covered under COBRA. You may have to pay more, like Employee & Children coverage amount, but the baby should be covered.

I hope you can figure out something financially. That would be tough.
