What is the deal with tissue weight tees?

Why would I want people to see through my top? Am I just getting really old (don't answer that)?

Wild guess it's for "layering" - like wearing a different tee or tank underneath. That's what I do for the "tissue" tee's I've gotten without trying on, just throw and neutral colored tank under them, for no see through!

It's stupid I think though, but I'm not one for fashion!

I know it is for layering but I can't imagine they would hold up to very many washings. I'm just fashion challenged.

They don't hold up. One of the shirt I got had holes in it after about the second washing. At least I paid about $2 for it - got a couple wears out of it....

I hate the thin t shirts too. Even the t shirts at Old Navy this summer were all so lightweight I didn't buy them. If I hold my hand underneath and can see the color of my skin through the shirt, I don't want it! I am not much of a layerer, though. (is that a word?)
