What is your first name? ELLEN MAE PATE
What are your kids’ names and ages? 22 YEAR OLD DD, BRITTANY, 23 YEAR OLD SON-IN-LAW, MARK, 20 YEAR OLD DS, KEVIN AND A 17 YEAR OLD DD, ELIZABETH. I ALSO HAVE A 3 YEAR OLD GRANDSON NAMED ANTHONY, A 2 YEAR OLD GRANDDAUGHTER NAMED ASHLAND AND MY DD, BRITTANY IS PREGANT AGAIN AND DUE IN JULY. WE JUST FOUND BRITTANY, MARK, ANTHONY, ASHLAND AND THE NEW BABY THIS WEEKEND. BRITTANY HAS BEEN OUT OF MY DH LIFE FOR TWENTY YEARS DUE TO A BAD DIVORCE, IT IS GREAT TO HAVE DOUBLED OUR FAMILY IN SIZE OVERNIGHT AND TO BECOME GRANDPARENTS.
How did you find Mommysavers? Have you referred anyone here? Were you referred here? I found mommysavers doing a search on the internet about frugal living tips. I signed up that day and have been an avid participate every since. I LOVE mommysavers, it has made a huge impact on our lifestye and saving money.
What does your user name mean? My name is Ellen Mae, my grandfather started calling me Ellie Mae Clappet from the Beverly Hillbillies when I was a baby. It is a name that has followed me every since. Upon moving to the south more and more people now call me Ellie Mae and alot of people don't even realize that it isn't exactly my real name. I use it on mommysavers to honor my grandfather.
Out of all the things the members here have offered in terms of advice, support, counsel and criticism, what have you personally benefited from? And do you remember specifically who the member was that offered that advice? I can't think of any one specifically but I would say I have recieved the best advice from the frugal saving threads. I have saved so much money by taking the advice givin in those threads and incorporating them into our home.
How many coupons do you use on a regular basis? I try to only shop once a month. When I do shop I go with a plan for the month, sales flyers and definitly coupons, I usually use any where between 5 and 20 coupons. I don't buy many convience foods and I don't buy stuff with coupons unless it is something that I would normally buy.
What was your most recent "bargain"? I got two boxes of hair coloring (got to cover those grays) for free from CVS. I had $5.00 in rewards money and a $1.00 off coupon. The hair coloring was on sale for $3.00 a box.
What have you done to save money this week? Clipped coupons for next months grocery shopping. I also will begin next months meal plan. Our food budget will have to be stretch even further now. My newest dd and her family will be coming and staying with us through the week while her dh is working because she is pretty much ready to have this baby at anytime and her dh goes out of town all week to work and she doesn't want to be alone in case she goes in labor. I will now be feeding 3 more mouths each day and I am going to try not to increase our food budget.
What do you consider a way of life that others think is a crazy way to save? Will if you mean others such as anyone beside mommysaver ladies, probably making my own laundry soap, cleaning supplies and thrift store shopping.
What is your favorite store in which to find bargains? I like to shop at our local Winn Dixie and I seem to find my best usuable bargans their. I also like our largest thrift shop in town for household items and clothing.
What is the best deal you ever found (even if it wasn’t at your favorite store)? Patio furniture at Walmart. I got a $1500.00 set of patio furniture on sale for $200 and nothing was wrong with it. It was just the last one and the end of the season.
What is your best money saving tip? Making your own laundry soap and meal planning.
What is your favorite frugal meal? Homemade Potato Strogenoff. It taste so much better than Hamburger helper and only cost pennies.
Do you enter contests? If so, what is the best prize you’ve ever won? I have just recently started entering contest. I haven't won anything yet, but I do sign up for alot of freebies and love opening my mail box these days to find free stuff instead of just bills.
If money were no object, what 3 things would you buy yourself or your family? I would expand our home so that we would all be comfortable. I would get my dh, dd, and ds all new vehicles that were dependable. I would build some kind of youth center in our town for the local kids and dedicate it to my mother and father for all the love and support that they have given me over the years.
If you had $10 to spend on yourself (you and you alone) what would you buy? Scented candles for my home. (I love candles)
Are there words you live by? What are they? "Enjoy the little things in life because someday they will be the big things" I try to take each moment that I can as a lesson and a memory. Life doesn't always make the blessings in your life so visible sometimes you have to look for them and realize that even though they may seem insignificant they may end up being the most important to you someday.
Sum yourself up in 1 word: It is very hard for me to just say one word!!! LOL. Probably, "Accepting", I take new situations and or bad, good or unusual situations and make them accepting. I do what ever I can to make them fit into my life for the best of my family.
