MS Mom of the Week is a fun way for us to get to know the Mommysavers members. The Mom of the Week is randomly selected a week in advance of her being featured. I do this so I can contact you, let you know your feature date, and arrange to receive from you a picture of yourself and/or you with your kids to include with the survey. Having a picture included is so we can make it a little more personal and put a name to a face. This is optional of course, as are all the questions being asked. If I don’t hear back from you before your “feature” date, I will randomly select the next person and then get back to you the next week. What is your first name? Michelle, but only DH calls me that when he’s trying to get my attention. I stick with Shell.
What are your kids’ names? Kelsey and Colin
Were you ready for motherhood? Nope. I didn’t even think I wanted kids until I was dating DH and then surprise! I wanted to start a family.
Have you ever met someone who has completely inspired you to be a better person? Can you tell us about that relationship and how it has affected you? I hold my mom in a very high regard, she is an inspiration. She worked hard all her life for everything she has. She got very ill in 2003 and was in a coma for almost a month and almost died several times, she says God kept her here for a reason. . She is still fighting her way back and to see what she goes through on a daily basis, makes me value life and want to be the best person I can and live my life to the fullest.
Do you have any nervous habits? What are they? I talk a lot when I’m nervous. And I tap…but that’s not just a nervous habit, Just a habit..I tap my fingers, pens, whatever I’m holding.
Did you ever date a guy your parents did not like? Were they right about him? Yes, I did date a few guys my parents didn’t like. My first long term boyfriend for one…My dad couldn’t stand him. No he wasn’t right about him. He was a good guy. My Dad just found him annoying and hated his laugh
What do you want your kids to remember the most about you? I want them to remember how strongly I love them. There is no equal to the love I feel for them. I want them to remember how I try to find the humor in everything and for them to try and do the same.
What did you learn the most from your mother? So much, I don’t think I could fit it all here. My mom is one of my best friends, I can turn to her with almost anything and we talk almost every day. She taught me to look on the bright side of things, sounds cliché, but if you can’t look to the bright side, you’re going to be a very un-happy person!
How many coupons do you use on a regular basis? What is your best money saving tip? It depends. Sometimes I use a lot sometimes a few. My favorite time to use them is Harris Teeter triple coupon sale. I have gotten a lot for very little. My best money saving advice? Stay home.Don’t go shopping unless you need something and then stick to a list. I am a Target Junkie. If I stay home, I save money, if I go there, somehow I end up spending at least $20.
How did you find Mommysavers? Have you referred anyone here? Were you referred here? Once upon a time, long, long ago, I was searching for money saving tips…I stumbled onto Mommysavers and have never looked back J Yes I have referred people here, 1 of whom is now a regular poster and just as hooked as I am!
Out of all the things the members here have offered in terms of advice, support, counsel and criticism, what have you personally benefited from? And do you remember specifically who the member was that offered that advice?
Wow…Too many…....Christy is my cheerleader. I KNOW I can count on her when I need encouragement. Julie is my rock; she has become a treasured friend. I benefit in some way, from just about everything I read on the board; there is so much great advice! Support, I know when I need it I can always turn here. A piece of advice that has always stuck with me, and I mentioned it the other day in a post…When it comes to naming a baby Daymom03 suggested (Like 2 or 3 years ago!) putting Judge in front of any name to see how it sounds.
Have you ever met a mommysaver? Yes, but I knew her before she was a Mommysaver. So does that count?
What is the most romantic thing your dh ever did for you? So much! I can’t even think of just one. It’s the little things that get me. Him cleaning the entire house for me on his only day off. Him giving the kids their baths at night. Letting me control the TV and hold the remote. A kiss on the forehead when he leaves in the morning, even if I’m sound asleep. Flowers for no reason, other than he was thinking of me. The biggest thing was when I had just gotten pregnant with DD- literally I was only about 6 weeks along ,and he bought me a Rodeo. Why? He couldn’t have his pregnant wife driving around in a little car (I had a 2 door cavalier that I loved) but my 6’3 husband insisted he would drive it and I would have to drive the SUV…. Big man in a little car…..that’s love.
Tell us five things you like about yourself. My eyes (they change from blue to green), My sense of humor, I’m pretty organized, My optimism, and my boobs…I’ve got good boobs
What hobby do you enjoy the most? What got you started on it? How would you rate yourself? Can you show us a picture of your proudest piece of work? I’m a beginner scrap booker, I think I’m pretty good for just starting out. I love taking photos and have quite a few that I’m proud of. And baking, I love to bake and am getting very good at cake decorating, So far I’ve done a castle, a snake, a ballerina , a race track, a butt (yes, you read that right) and just this last weekend I made a unicorn cake.
How many frogs did you kiss before you found Mr. Right? Was he worth the wait? I kissed quite a few….and even married one…that’s a whole nother thread! Rob was totally worth the wait!
What is your favorite genre of music? Who is your favorite group? Have you ever seen them in concert? I love Country music…I’m a country bumpkin at heart. Toby Keith is my absolute favorite, I have seen him 5 times. I have other favorites too and have seen well into the hundreds of concerts (from all genres and timelines…you’d be very surprised!)
List three things you have on your Life List; things you would like to accomplish before you leave this world. I want to take my kids to Disney world.. I love seeing things through their eyes, and what could be more magical than Disney DH and I always say when we retire we’re going to drive around the country and goto all the NASCAR races except Arizona ~I don’t want to goto Arizona…I have a thing about Tarantulas and I associate Arizona with them (It’s one of my very odd things) . I’d like to know that somehow, somewhere I made a difference in somebody’s life….in a good way
Which room in your house best reflects your personality? I think my kitchen…It’s very homey and sunny .Whenever we get together with friends and family, it’s where we end up. My living room would be close a second…It’s a comfy room with neutral colors lots of family pictures…I LOVE pictures, especially of my kids, so I surround myself with them. Hmmm..so I suppose I’m saying I’m sunny, comfy , neutral and family oriented
What do you see your children growing up to be like? What career path would they choose? I can see Kelsey in so many different careers~ something artistic, she loves to draw, and write. A Teacher, a nurse, a doctor, and actress (She is my little drama queen) anything she sets her mind to, she will do and be great at! Colin, I can see building things, he has a great imagination! Maybe a vet….he loves animals. He too, will be great at whatever he chooses.
Is there something we would never guess about you? Some kind or quirk you have no one close to you knows about. (C’mon tell us!!!!) I can’t think of anything…I’m a pretty open book…..Now there are a few things I’ve DONE that you’d never guess…and I won’t be telling
Are there words you live by? What are they? Believe none of what you hear and only half of what you see. Everything happens for a reason. If you can’t say something nice…come sit next to me.
