**Disclaimer**
MS Mom of the Week is a fun way for us to get to know the Mommysavers members. . Newbies to the board as well as regulars are welcome to participate. The Mom of the Week is randomly selected a week in advance of her being featured. I do this so I can contact you, let you know your feature date, and arrange to receive a picture from you to include with the survey. Having a picture included is so we can make it a little more personal and put a name to a face. This is optional of course, as are all the questions being asked. If I don’t hear back from you before your “feature” date, I will randomly select the next person and then get back to you the following week. If you would like to participate please
PM Christy_K_ and we will get you signed up.
Let’s get started!!!
What is your first name? Anita- I don’t usually post this personal info but for you guys just this once.
What are your kids’ names? Elena-8, Celia-6, Mikaela-3
Were you ready for motherhood? Yes, but didn’t realize how much. Dh and I had been married for about 4 years and we were watching an episode of Rosanne. In the show Rosanne is rubbing Dan’s head assuring him everything will be okay, she found out she was preggo. Dh said to me “how come you never do that to me?” He was referring to the head rub, I burst into tears and said “because you won’t let me get pregnant.”
Have you ever met someone who has completely inspired you to be a better person? Can you tell us about that relationship and how it has affected you? I had a great teacher in junior high who really pushed me to be a leader, for good rather than evil, if you know what I mean. I was always getting into trouble because I couldn’t keep my mouth shut. I still get in trouble for not keeping my mouth shut but it’s usually for good things now. She was the one who made me believe in myself. I am capable even if everyone else thinks I’m not. She taught me to know when to buck authority. She let me vent, she gave me hugs. It was Ms Rubenstein who gave me the confidence that I could go to college, no matter what my circumstances.
Do you have any nervous habits? What are they? I touch my fingertips when I am talking/arguing about deep pain. I touch every one and then start over, both hands.
Did you ever date a guy your parents did not like? Were they right about him? They never knew about any of them. In high school I never brought a guy home. The only guy to ever meet my dad went to a catholic military school so he knew how to act. They liked him. He was nice but we just didn’t click. The bad boys they never met. I already knew they were bad for me and I also knew better. In college my mom liked all of them. One wouldn’t commit and the others weren’t right and I was okay with that.
What do you want your kids to remember the most about you? I never gave up because it got hard. I am proud of who I am and where I came from. I love the color of my skin/hair/eyes/size of my boobs, even if others don’t.
What did you learn the most from your mother? Protect my babies with my life. I will love you no matter what you tell me. You could never do anything that would make me hate you. To be proud of where you came from because without it you have no place to go.
How many coupons do you use on a regular basis? What is your best money saving tip? Depends on the week, average 10 for grocery store, 5 for Walgreens, usually 2 for all others including restaurants. I use them whenever possible. Best money saving tip is don’t get caught up with affluenza (keeping up with the Jones).
How did you find Mommysavers? Have you referred anyone here? Were you referred here? Saw Kim on local TV news, NBC (love KARE). Mostly just used the mommysavers site, but got brave to venture to discussion board. I never referred anyone because this is my special place. I have mentioned the site but not the discussion board part.
Out of all the things the members here have offered in terms of advice, support, counsel and criticism, what have you personally benefited from? And do you remember specifically who the member was that offered that advice? The person that stands out the most is annemc. She literally saved me. I didn’t realize how far into depression I had gotten after the death of a very close friend preceded by the death of a very close cousin. She reached out to me when I felt that I had nobody left. I have received many more words of support and encouragement from lots of others. Too many to list, I am blessed.
Have you ever met a mommysaver? Yes, I met shmobes, not sure if she posts very much, and kellynkay at a local zoo. I almost met jrose4.
What is the most romantic thing your dh ever did for you? He is romantically challenged. I would say it was when he had to go out of town for work on my birthday. It just so happened to be my first bday with him as a married couple. I made plans and then the person flaked on me and I ended sitting home alone on my bday. He called my friend and told her to call me/come over if she could after work. He sent flowers, which he thinks, are a waste of money. He called the florist at 4:50 and told them they had to arrive that evening.
Tell us five things you like about yourself. These are in no particular order, I like my hair color, skin color, my wrists- I think they’re cute, my boobs, I am fiercely loyal to my family and friends.
What hobby do you enjoy the most? What got you started on it? How would you rate yourself? Can you show us a picture of your proudest piece of work? Don’t think I can show any work since my hobbies are gardening and I live in MN, where everything is dead or dormant right now. I also read a lot and LOVE bargain shopping. One of my best finds was a Tiffany pin. It was a corporate pin. I paid $2.00 for it and it is worth $100.00. I had it appraised at the Antique Road Show when they came to MN. With everything I rank myself a 10, except gardening. I took a hiatus from gardening while we work on the house.
How many frogs did you kiss before you found Mr. Right? Was he worth the wait? Too many. I practically had to force myself on dh; men are so slow.
What is your favorite genre of music? Who is your favorite group? Have you ever seen them in concert? 80’s dance. I also like 70’s R&B/disco/dance. The only person I paid to see in concert was Madonna and she was worth the money. I think that was 1986. Oh yeah I saw Prince too. He did a special concert with ticket prices $10.00 a ticket. That was way cool. That was in college. I can’t bring myself to pay for concerts now.
List three things you have on your Life List; things you would like to accomplish before you leave this world. Finish my post-secondary education, still working toward that Masters. Open a center for disadvantaged girls. Learn to speak and write Spanish fluently.
Which room in your house best reflects your personality? The attic closet is filled with my finds that have yet to find a place in the home. Or I waiting for kids to get older to put them out.
What do you see your children growing up to be like? What career path would they choose? I expect all of them to go to college. Not sure about career paths, but I can tell that dd#1 expects to be good at everything and is determined to do so, dd #2 is very nurturing, dd#3 is head strong, don’t know where she got that!
Is there something we would never guess about you? Some kind or quirk you have no one close to you knows about. (C’mon tell us!!!!) I can’t think of anything I haven’t already confessed. I have to be able to see the door when I go to bed. If I wake up and I can’t see the door I will move so I can. I don’t like to sleep by myself. I don’t enjoy sleeping away from home, especially as a kid. If I’m on vacation I have to have someone sleep with me.
Are there words you live by? What are they? God won’t give me more than I can handle. I just have to learn to reach out for help.
