**Disclaimer**
MS Mom of the Week is a fun way for us to get to know the Mommysavers members. Newbies to the board as well as regulars are welcome to participate. The Mom of the Week is randomly selected a week in advance of her being featured. I do this so I can contact you, let you know your feature date, and arrange to receive a picture from you to include with the survey. Having a picture included is so we can make it a little more personal and put a name to a face. This is optional of course, as are all the questions being asked. If I don’t hear back from you before your “feature” date, I will randomly select the next person and then get back to you the following week. If you would like to participate please
PM Christy_K_ and we will get you signed up.
Let’s get started!!!
What is your first name? Marcy
What are your kids’ names? Sean-19, Ethan-8, Sam-4 and angels Nathanial (8/6/97-8/8/97) and Benjamin (8/6/97-8/21/97)
Were you ready for motherhood? All I ever wanted to be was a mom but in retrospect, I was very young. I would have liked to be in a better place in my life and more prepared but I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world.
Have you ever met someone who has completely inspired you to be a better person? Can you tell us about that relationship and how it has affected you? Many people have inspired me to be a better person but no one more than my twins. They were born so tiny and fought so hard. They had a strength that came through from the very first moment I saw them. Because of their lives and deaths, I am stronger. They have touched more lives through me than a lot of people do in a whole lifetime. I have met the most amazing people that I would not have otherwise had the honor of knowing. I learn from their grace, strength and courage all the time.
Do you have any nervous habits? What are they? I chew my nails and play with my earlobe when I’m nervous.
Did you ever date a guy your parents did not like? Were they right about him? They didn’t like most of them. Some they were right about. My mom can be very judgmental and has a tendency not to give people a chance.
What do you want your kids to remember the most about you? Obviously I want them to remember that I loved them more than anything but I also hope to have taught them how to be wonderful husbands and sons-in-law and that their brothers are their very best friends. I grew up feeling in competition with my siblings for my mother’s affection and approval so I want them to have a bond with their brothers that I didn’t have.
What did you learn the most from your mother? I learned to never use the fact that I’m female to keep me from doing things. She was a nun for five years, left the convent, met my dad six months later and had five kids in five years. She taught school, got her master’s degree and was a principal, rode dirt bikes, mechanical bulls, fished, went sky diving for the first time when she was almost 60 and just shot a 9 point buck last fall. It served me well many times throughout my life and gave me the confidence to do things I might never have done.
How many coupons do you use on a regular basis? What is your best money saving tip? I am sporadic with coupons. I use them mostly for dinners out and tickets to events instead of groceries. My best money saving tip, hmmm… Mostly the obvious, shop around, stay out of the stores if you’re stressed so you don’t buy on emotion instead of need and barter with friends, family and neighbors for things.
How did you find Mommysavers? Have you referred anyone here? Were you referred here? I don’t remember how I found Mommysavers but I’ve been here since the old board several years ago. Like others, I haven’t really referred people here because it’s my secret! J
Out of all the things the members here have offered in terms of advice, support, counsel and criticism, what have you personally benefited from? And do you remember specifically who the member was that offered that advice? I tend to lurk more than post everyday and just get involved in the conversations that directly affect me or that I have something to contribute to. Everyone has been so wonderful through some of the things that I have shared, especially since my son volunteered to go to Iraq. You can always count on the wonderful people here to boost you up when you need it the most.
Have you ever met a mommysaver? No, I’m not completely opposed to it but I kind of like the anonymity of it.
What is the most romantic thing your dh ever did for you? Asked me to marry him under a huge Christmas tree at the zoo.
Tell us five things you like about yourself. I am caring and giving, I am very creative and can make a lot from very little, I am really good at most things I set my mind too, I am a good mom and I am stronger than I give myself credit for sometimes.
What hobby do you enjoy the most? What got you started on it? How would you rate yourself? Can you show us a picture of your proudest piece of work? I love any kind of crafts; painting, decorating, flower arranging, making wreaths, photography, knitting, etc. I can usually look at a picture of something and duplicate it. I got my creativity from my mom but the thing I think I’m most proud of is the cake decorating I do.
How many frogs did you kiss before you found Mr. Right? Was he worth the wait? Too many!! And yes, he was worth the wait.
What is your favorite genre of music? Who is your favorite group? Have you ever seen them in concert? I like country and pop. My all time favorites are Bob Marley and Jimmy Buffett. I’ve seen Buffett in concert but Bob Marley is dead.
List three things you have on your Life List; things you would like to accomplish before you leave this world: I want to finish my college degree, I want a new house and I want to live close enough to my sons, their wives and my grandkids to spoil them rotten. I don’t have any daughters so I really hope to be close to my daughters-in-law.
Which room in your house best reflects your personality? My bedroom. I repainted it not long ago and I love the way it looks.
What do you see your children growing up to be like? What career path would they choose? Sean has already started his career path in the Army and it will be interesting to see where it takes him from here. I suspect he will make it a life long career because he seems to have found his niche but we’ll see. Ethan will do something to help others because he is an incredibly loving and sensitive. I see Sam doing something physical like firefighter, police officer, etc. because he is the most fearless of all the boys.
Is there something we would never guess about you? Some kind or quirk you have no one close to you knows about. (C’mon tell us!!!!) I’m 5’3” tall, pretty girly most of the time and I was an MP in the Army. Most people are shocked by that when I tell them. Also, I have more than 90 pairs of shoes. It’s a sickness really but I think after 10 years in combat boots, it’s unavoidable.
Are there words you live by? What are they? That which does not kill you makes you stronger. I am living proof of that.
