**Disclaimer**
MS Mom of the Week is a fun way for us to get to know the Mommysavers members. Newbies to the board as well as regulars are welcome to participate. The Mom of the Week is randomly selected a week in advance of her being featured. I do this so I can contact you, let you know your feature date, and arrange to receive a picture from you to include with the survey. Having a picture included is so we can make it a little more personal and put a name to a face. This is optional of course, as are all the questions being asked. If I don’t hear back from you before your “feature” date, I will randomly select the next person and then get back to you the following week. If you would like to participate please PM Christy_K_ and we will get you signed up.

Let’s get started!!!

What is your first name? Melissa

What are your kids’ names? Daysia (22) John (18)
and Chancil (32) - adopted.

Were you ready for motherhood? Not at all, i was
only 19 when i got pregnant - on the pill, in college, newly married and
in the process of adopting my emotionally damaged brother.

Have you ever met someone who has completely inspired you
to be a better person?

My 4th and final foster mother.

Can you tell us about that relationship and how it has
affected you?

She took me in when no one else wanted me, showed me how to love and be loved, she made it possible for me to love myself. She invested her heart in turning my life around -I shudder to think what my life would have been like had I not ended up on her doorstep.

Do you have any nervous habits? What are they?
I clean, scrub, disinfect, purge. I also do it when I am upset and bored.

Did you ever date a guy your parents did not like?
I was 14 when i went into foster care - I did not date until I had graduated HS and lived on my own so I didn't really have any parental presence. After my divorce I did date, there were 2 guys I had
introduced to the kids over 2 yrs that they disliked immediately.

Were they right about him?
Absolutely! I dumped them the next day.

What do you want your kids to remember the most about you?
That I loved them unconditionally, no matter how many times they broke my heart I loved them without pause.

What did you learn the most from your mother?
from my bio mom - what not to do. From my foster mom - How to be a good parent, she taught me how to participate as a family member and how to be a productive member by giving back and helping those less fortunate.

How many coupons do you use on a regular basis?
It depends on how much I am shopping for - sometimes 2 -3 or as many as 10-15.

What is your best money saving tip?
I stockpile non perishables when they are on sale and use coupons as much as possible. I have reduced my grocery budget in half since I started doing this.

How did you find Mommysavers?
By doing a Google search for frugal tips.

Have you referred anyone here?
I used to but most of my friends are either uninterested in saving money or feel its too time consuming.

Were you referred here? No

Out of all the things the members here have offered in terms of advice, support, counsel and criticism, what have you personally benefited from? And do you remember specifically who the
member was that offered that advice?

I recently went through a very hard time at work. I did not post anything on a board about it
because of the nature of my job (I'm a pediatric continuous homecare nurse for medically fragile children and those with special needs.) I chose to confide in tacoma ranch. I was devastated and feeling very low,
she sent me several messages that were uplifting and supportive. *Thank you so much April!

Have you ever met a mommysaver?
No but I'd like to. I think it would be cool to have a mommysavers convention!

What is the most romantic thing your dh ever did for you?
Took me to a Renaissance Faire for my birthday. We rented costumes and spent the whole day eating and attending all the shows and displays. I assumed he would take me to a campground or the cheapest no-tell motel (because he is cheap like that) but he had reserved a honeymoon suite at The Marriott Suites Hotel. I was blown away. He arranged to have the hot tub filled with rose petals and had lit candles all around it. He really splurged which is nothing at all like him!

Tell us five things you like about yourself.
This is a really hard question to answer! I am really patient which is good because I work with some really challenging kids and familes! I throw awesome parties, my kids and our friends say I should be a party
planner. I have a big heart full of love, I am a great parent, and a great grandmother!

What hobby do you enjoy the most? Quilting

What got you started on it? the price of a
handmade Amish quilt

How would you rate yourself?
Fair I guess. I still need help on the binding and my points are still not all perfect.

Can you show us a picture of your proudest piece of work?
It's a wall hanging made with oriental themed fabric. It was not liked at all by the other students in the class but when it was done they all loved it and it won 1st prize at the fair!

How many frogs did you kiss before you found Mr. Right?
More than I care to recall.

Was he worth the wait? Absolutely!

What is your favorite genre of music?
It changes every few days. Right now I am listening to The Coffee House (singer and songwriters) on Sirius Satellite radio.

Who is your favorite group?
My favorite song is The Painter by Neil Young, and This Is The First Day of My Life by Bright Eyes.

Have you ever seen them in concert?
I saw Neil Young once back in the late 70's lol. I would love to see Beastie Boys live at least once before I die - preferably where I grew up (NYC)

List three things you have on your Life List; things you would like to accomplish before you leave this world
Travel the US, travel Europe, and see my Foster Mother again someday so that I can get one more of her hugs.

Which room in your house best reflects your personality?
probably my kitchen. I have some really cool artwork the kids made when they were little, I have pictures of family and friends all over my fridge, it's decorated with dragonflies (my
favorite) and some cobalt glass that I have collected over the years.

What do you see your children growing up to be like?
They are pretty much grown. My son is a Quaker, sweet, artsy, musically talented, and very mature. My daughter is a (good)mother, she is dedicated to the family she has started. She is starting to change from the girl she was in HS, it is fascinating to watch!

What career path would they choose?
My son hopes to someday own an organic green house or work in conflict resolution. My daughter works with the MH/MR population in community services, she hopes to secure a job in management once she finishes her degree.

Is there something we would never guess about you? Some kind or quirk you have no one close to you knows about. (C’mon tell us!!!!)
I am really uncomfortable being hugged by anyone other than my DH, my kids and grandkids. I don't know why.... I just don't like it.

Are there words you live by? What are they?
Do not let what you want now interfere with what you want most
I like this saying because it can apply to many situations - spending, weight loss, fidelity, any decision affecting a future goal.

Melissa, it was so great getting to know you better. The part where you said you would like to see your foster mother again for one more hug brought tears to my eyes
