**Disclaimer**
MS Mom of the Week is a fun way for us to get to know the Mommysavers members. Newbies to the board as well as regulars are welcome to participate. The Mom of the Week is randomly selected a week in advance of her being featured. I do this so I can contact you, let you know your feature date, and arrange to receive a picture from you to include with the survey. Having a picture included is so we can make it a little more personal and put a name to a face. This is optional of course, as are all the questions being asked. If I don’t hear back from you before your “feature” date, I will randomly select the next person and then get back to you the following week. If you would like to participate please
PM Christy_K_ and we will get you signed up.
Let's get started!
What is your first name? Ann
What are your kids’ names?
Grayson and Nevie (or HRH as we like to call her, for obvious reasons!)
Were you ready for motherhood?
I had been married for 10 years and was 33 years old when I got pregnant, so I knew, intellectually, about what motherhood would entail. I understood about the commitment – emotionally, financially, and physically – that was required to be a mom. But I don’t think anyone is ever really ready. Because understanding it and doing it are two completely different things.
Have you ever met someone who has completely inspired you to be a better person? Can you tell us about that relationship and how it has affected you?
That’s a tough question. There are many people in my life who have, and continue to, inspire me every day. My grandparents, parents, and now my children have all inspired me.
Do you have any nervous habits? What are they?
When I was a teenager, I had a beautiful strand of pearls given to me by my parents on my 16th birthday. I wore them every day. When I was nervous, I would twirl them around my finger or chew on them. As an adult, whenever I am nervous I put the tips of my fingers together and flex my fingers – my husband always knows when something is bothering me because of this – and I don’t even realize that I’m doing it!
Did you ever date a guy your parents did not like? Were they right about him?
Yes, and I married him! They were wrong, I was right, and now they like him better than they like me! J
What do you want your kids to remember the most about you?
First, that their mother loves them more than anything in the world, and no matter what they do, I will always love them. Second, that I am a strong, forthright individual who keeps her promises. Third, that when I say I’m going to do something, I do it.
What did you learn the most from your mother?
How to be a strong, accomplished, independent woman, and how to pass those traits on to her children.
How many coupons do you use on a regular basis? What is your best money saving tip?
I use coupons whenever I can. However, I am very “brand specific” with most of the things that I buy. Whenever possible, I wait until I can get double or triple coupons at my grocery store to maximize the savings. My best money saving tip? Ask yourself if you really need something or just want something before you buy it. If the answer is “want”, then most of the time put it back. Not spending money is the best way to save money.
How did you find Mommysavers? Have you referred anyone here? Were you referred here?
I found Mommysavers several years ago after the birth of my son. I did a google search of diaper coupons, and up came Mommysavers! I started off trading coupons, and then got involved in the general discussion boards. For a time I was a moderator (before work got too hectic and I had to give it up). I have referred people here, and have made some wonderful friendships too.
Out of all the things the members here have offered in terms of advice, support, counsel and criticism, what have you personally benefited from? And do you remember specifically who the member was that offered that advice?
Kemtee, Calimari, AnneMC, JeannetteDavis and others have all offered wonderful advice to me over the years. I think the best advice I ever got was from Kemtee when she said “and your worrying about this because…?”
Have you ever met a mommysaver?
Yup! Kemtee and I are great friends. We get together about 4 times a year to knit and gab and hang out with the kids.
What is the most romantic thing your dh ever did for you?
My dh does little romantic things for me all the time – he’ll draw a bubble bath for me, massage my feet, and just tell me that he loves me.
Tell us five things you like about yourself.
I have nice calves and ankles.
I am a smart (and sometimes cranky) person.
I am a good mom.
I am opinionated.
I am loyal.
What hobby do you enjoy the most? What got you started on it? How would you rate yourself? Can you show us a picture of your proudest piece of work?
Right now my hobby of choice is knitting. Kemtee is my enabler. I am an okay knitter. I can make socks, so that’s an accomplishment! My blog shows all of my work (
http://anniebananie.wordpress.com).
How many frogs did you kiss before you found Mr. Right? Was he worth the wait?
I kissed too many frogs. And yes, nearly 17 years later I can STILL say that he was worth the wait!
What is your favorite genre of music? Who is your favorite group? Have you ever seen them in concert?
I like most kinds of music – classical, jazz, classic rock, country. I don’t really have one favorite group – although I do love the B-52s and the Indigo Girls. I have seen both in concert!
List three things you have on your Life List; things you would like to accomplish before you leave this world
First, I want to ensure that my children grow up to be well educated, opinionated, common sense people who can fend for themselves.
Second, I want to go to Ireland and ride horses.
Third, I want my parents to know how much I love, respect, and appreciate them for helping me become the woman I am today.
Which room in your house best reflects your personality?
My home office. I like to call it “controlled chaos chic”.
What do you see your children growing up to be like? What career path would they choose?
My children can be whatever they want to be, as long as they have an education. My son is very logical and a great negotiator. I only hope he doesn’t go into politics! He does want to run a train company someday. My daughter – for her I wish the stars. She is such a vivacious and quick little girl. I would like for her to be a rocket scientist.
Is there something we would never guess about you? Some kind or quirk you have no one close to you knows about. (C’mon tell us!!!!)
“My good opinion once lost is lost forever”, Darcy to Elizabeth Bennett in Pride and Prejudice
Are there words you live by? What are they?
“Do what you should do first; then you can do what you want to do” My father taught me this when I was 15. His mother taught him this. I am teaching my children this.
