Our Mommysaver MOM Of the Week is:
KIM
What is your first name?
Big shock… Kimberly.
What are your kids’ names?
Sydney is almost seven and Nicholas will be three on Friday.
Were you ready for motherhood?
Yes… VERY ready. We had been married for six years already when Sydney was born. I had wanted to be a mother all my life!
Have you ever met someone who has completely inspired you to be a better person? Can you tell us about that relationship and how it has affected you?
If I had to pick one person, it would be my husband. I feel like I’m a better person because of him. However, all of my friends inspire me in one way or another; whether it’s to be a better mother, a kinder person, or just to learn to laugh at myself.
Did you ever date a guy your parents did not like? Were they right about him? If they didn’t like any of my boyfriends, they were pretty good about keeping it to themselves!
What do you want your kids to remember the most about you? Like most moms, I want them to remember how much I loved them. I’m always giving hugs and kisses and telling them how much they mean to me. It’s important to me to create happy memories of all of us having fun together or just being silly. I think kids remember feelings more than they remember events. It’s my goal for them to remember being happy as kids.
How many coupons do you use on a regular basis? What is your best money saving tip?
When I grocery shop, I use the in-store coupons, but I don’t clip manufacturer coupons unless it’s for a product I normally buy. I buy a lot of generics. My best money saving tip: Live below your means. If you do this, you won’t have to worry about money. Budget money each month for savings FIRST, and whatever is left over is for your life (house, bills, fun money, etc.)
How did you find Mommysavers? Have you referred anyone here? Were you referred here?
The idea of Mommysavers started the winter of 2000. I was at home on maternity leave after having Sydney, and didn’t want to go back to work full-time. I was looking online for anything to help moms transition from one income to two, but didn’t find many good resources. So, I decided to create one! Mommysavers launched in March of 2000.
Out of all the things the members here have offered in terms of advice, support, counsel and criticism, what have you personally benefited from? And do you remember specifically who the member was that offered that advice? I hate to single anyone out. Everyone here has been extremely supportive, especially during times when people criticize the site for one reason or another. It’s great to know that there is a whole community of people behind me. Those are the things I remember the most.
Have you ever met a Mommysaver?
Occasionally when I tell people about Mommysavers, they mention that they get the newsletter or have used the website. That is a great feeling! I’m still looking forward to meeting some familiar forum moms face-to-face.
What is the most romantic thing your dh ever did for you? He’s not exactly a romantic guy in the traditional sense. Occasionally he comes through with flowers or a gift, but I appreciate it most when he offers to take the kids so I can have some time to myself.
What hobby do you enjoy the most? What got you started on it? How would you rate yourself? Can you show us a picture of your proudest piece of work?
I love reading. I’ve always been a bookworm, even as a child. Now I don’t have as much time for it as I wish I did. I am in a book club so I know I’ll read at least one book per month. My proudest piece of work isn’t really anything I’ve read, but something I wrote: 1000 Best Baby Bargains. It is a compilation of all the tips and hints frugal moms need during pregnancy, baby and toddlerhood.
How many frogs did you kiss before you found Mr. Right? Was he worth the wait? I met my husband right after I graduated from high school. We’ve been together even since. So, there aren’t too many frogs in my past. J
What is your favorite genre of music? Who is your favorite group? Have you ever seen them in concert? I like pretty much everything; pop, rap, rock, alternative, and even some country (I’m trying to learn to like it!). On my iPod right now: Coldplay, Five for Fighting, the Curious George Soundtrack, Kelly Clarkson and James Blunt. My favorite group is U2 and I’ve seen them in concert three times. They’re amazing!
What do you see your children growing up to be like? What career path would they choose? They’re still so little, it’s hard to say. I want to encourage them to do something that they enjoy. Life is too short to be stuck in a job that isn’t fulfilling.
Is there something we would never guess about you? Some kind or quirk you have no one close to you knows about. (C’mon tell us!!!!) I am afraid of heights and have an aversion to chalk (I can barely touch it!).
Are there words you live by? What are they? Be happy with what you have. In today’s society it’s easy to get caught up in the “More, More, More” mentality. If you do, you miss out on life’s blessings.
