What is your first name? Lori

What are your kids’ names? Cody, 20 and Connor, 5.

Were you ready for motherhood?
No. I found out I was going to have Cody on my 17th birthday. Needless to say Cody attended my high school graduation.

Do you have any nervous habits? What are they?
Wow, now that I think about it I guess I have a few. I can’t sit still. I have to move some part of my legs or feet. I have bit my lip for years so much so that I have a rough patch on my bottom lip. It isn’t noticeable, but I can feel it. I pick at my cuticles. I have never bit my nails, but I just can’t leave my cuticles alone. And when I am talking to someone who intimidates me, I wipe at my nose like I am parinoid something maybe there.

Did you ever date a guy your parents did not like? Were they right about him?
Yes, dh! Dh lived on the “wrong side of the tracks”. He had a '76 Cutlass that was black with a white vinyl roof, dual sun roofs, dual exhaust. And he loved his music (heavy metal) loud. Anyway my favorite memory about the whole thing is that when we were going to get married I was to young to go to the doctor by myself to get a blood test. My mom had to go because I was a minor. Well dh came by to get us for some reason. My mom, who is a bit uptight, had to ride in his car, furry seats and dice hanging off the rear view mirror and no air conditioning. Now that I think back on it, it was hilarious.

What do you want your kids to remember the most about you?
That I was a good mother and wife and a hard worker.

What did you learn the most from your mother?
Not to be dependant on people. My mother is very dependant on my father. She doesn’t even know how to get gas in the car. Dad pays all bills, he does everything. If something ever happens to him, I don’t know what she will do. So I have made sure in my life, that I don’t have to depend much on anyone.

How many coupons do you use on a regular basis? What is your best money saving tip?
Around 10. I actually have only been using coupons for about 2 months. My best money saving tip is make a menu plan. I have always done this, because we use to both get paid every two weeks on the same week. So I had to make the money last to get from week to week. If you stick to your list, it is a lot cheaper.

How did you find Mommysavers? Have you referred anyone here? Were you referred here?
After I got over the initial shock that I was going to have children 14 years apart, I started to panic. We were having a hard enough time making it with three of us. How in the world were we going to afford a baby! So I started searching the internet for free baby stuff and ran across this website. I subscribed to the newsletter but working full-time with baby on the way, I never really had the time to fully explore MS. But about a year ago, after certain circumstances, I was able to leave my job and stay at home. I then had the time to really check out what MS was all about. But I had forgotten what I had used for my password four years earlier, so I signed up again with new name and password and started exploring. Now I am addicted!

Out of all the things the members here have offered in terms of advice, support, counsel and criticism, what have you personally benefited from? And do you remember specifically who the member was that offered that advice?
Wow, this is a hard one. I have learned so much, there are a lot of wise women on here. I have gotten so much good advice, that I am not sure I don’t want to single anyone out for fear I might miss someone. I would like to thank lrwtjw for letting me in on the CVS game. It has been very profitable for me.

Have you ever met a mommysaver? No

What is the most romantic thing your dh ever did for you?
My dh isn’t much on romance, but the most memorable was after about 5 years of marriage on our anniversary. I worked days and he worked second shift. When I got home from work (expecting the night to be me and Cody) there was a note in the living room telling me to go to the bedroom, then a note in the bedroom to go to the kitchen and so on, until I had gone into every room except the utility room. When I got to the utility room to find the next note there stood dh with a big bouquet of flowers. He had taken the night off, arranged for a baby sitter and took me out to eat.

Tell us five things you like about yourself.
Five things? Wow.
1. Well I now like my hair. I have long red hair but when I was young I was teased so much, that I wanted the dullest brown hair you could get. Also I have perfect 80’s hair, it is thick, frizzy and curly. But about a year and half ago I finally figured out how to fix it. It is straight now (which is a lot of work), but I get so many compliments, that I finally like it. Now if I can figure out how to get rid of the gray I would be doing great.
2. I have a really good complexion. I have never had problems with acne or anything like that.
3. I have big blue eyes, but I have blond eyelashes and eyebrows. So without makeup I am really washed out.
4. I am a hard worker, I can’t stand to not be doing something, usually multi tasking.
5. I love my family with all my heart. I don’t know what I would do without them.

What hobby do you enjoy the most? What got you started on it? How would you rate yourself? Can you show us a picture of your proudest piece of work?
Well about a year ago I was attending our fall festival and there was a stand with this art that I was so intrigued with. Anyway I kept going back, finally asking what it was made out of, which was gourds. Anyway I never buy anything but since dh was playing poker in a tournament I decided I could buy one. Well of course the one I wanted and could afford was sold. But the lady told me she could make me one similar to that one. So about a week later she brought it to me at work and we got to talking. She was getting ready to move to Arizona so didn’t mind giving me tips such as where to even buy a gourd. Anyway I loved it so much I had to give it a try. After lots of research and trial and error I carve gourds now. I started in October 2006 and in November 2006 I severed my tendon in the joint on my ring finger on my left hand and had to have surgery and pins. But it didn’t stop me from messing with those gourds. I finished the gourd I was working on when I hurt my finger while bandaged (dedication, huh?) and am still doing it, just a little differently than I did before. I actually have some pieces in an art gallery in Chicago (I have sold three!!! Very exciting) and I attended a few things last year, with hopes of attending more this year. So for those of you wondering why I call myself gourdlady06, you now know.

How many frogs did you kiss before you found Mr. Right? Was he worth the wait?
Wow, several. But Mr. Right has been in and out of my life since I was 10. I really think he is my soul mate. We met at youth fellowship, he was addicted to rubiks cube and always had it with him. I had the biggest crush on him, and used to take his rubiks cube so he would chase me. Anyway we met back up in high school. First as friends, then one night he came through Dairy Queen drive thru with his friends and we were talking while his food was cooking and when he was leaving one of the girls yelled, “she gets off work at 11”. Well that was all fine and well, but I had a bf who was picking me up after work. So sure enough, dh was waiting on me after work and I had to ask him to leave because of my bf. Anyway he told me later that he swore he would never go out with me because I humiliated him in front of his friends. That didn’t last though. So how we finally began dating? Well I gave some money to a guy to go buy me and my friend some beer. Anyway he took off with it and never got us our beer. So we pulled dh and his friend over and I asked him if they could get us some beer. He told me that they weren’t old enough but he loaned me the money. I don’t know what I was thinking but when he loaned me the money, I kissed him on the cheek. So when I went to pay him back a week later, we started dating, and the rest is history.

What is your favorite genre of music? Who is your favorite group? Have you ever seen them in concert?
This one is hard to narrow down also. Rock, alternative, soft rock, jazz. Just about anything, except country. My favorite group? Nickelback. I have only been to two concerts in my life: Lynard Skynard and Mellencamp. Would love to see Nickelback, Jack Johnson, Counting Crows, Alanis…….So many.

List three things you have on your Life List; things you would like to accomplish before you leave this world:
Never really put it into this perspective, but I guess just to be happy, which I have accomplished. For my children to be happy. To live a long full life.

Which room in your house best reflects your personality?
Living room. My carpet is different shades of tans and brown, couch, love seat and chair are tan, walls bone which reflects the safe, dependable side, but the red curtains and pillows, the part of me that wants to be kinda crazy, energetic and spur of the moment kind of person.

What do you see your children growing up to be like? What career path would they choose?
Well with Cody being 20 now he really isn’t making the choices I thought he would. But do your children ever. I make sure he knows that I don’t care how much money he makes or what he does with his life (to a point), as long as he is happy.

Is there something we would never guess about you? Some kind or quirk you have no one close to you knows about. (C’mon tell us!!!!)
I like to be alone. It isn’t that I don’t love being with my family, but I am very comfortable being by myself. I will get up at 5 in the morning just so I can be alone for several hours.

Are there words you live by? What are they?
Try not to let money make your life miserable. It’s only money.

**Disclaimer**

MS Mom of the Week is a fun way for us to get to know the Mommysavers members. Newbies to the board as well as regulars are welcome to participate. The Mom of the Week is randomly selected a week in advance of her being featured. I do this so I can contact you, let you know your feature date, and arrange to receive a picture from you to include with the survey. Having a picture included is so we can make it a little more personal and put a name to a face. This is optional of course, as are all the questions being asked. If I don’t hear back from you before your “feature” date, I will randomly select the next person and then get back to you the following week. If you would like to participate please PM Doozer and we will get you signed up

Everyone, thank you so much for all the kind words!

Keep a look out. When I get a little time, I am going to RAK one of my gourds (Hopefully one day this week).
