Sure! I make mine in a 5 gallon stock pot. Here it is:

1 bar of soap
1 c. washing soda
1 c. Borax

Grate soap. Cover w/water and heat to melted. Add soda and borax to soap and water to fill. Stir. Use 1 c. per load.

I use any soap that is not heavy in moisturizer. Hotel soaps and bar remnants work great! I use enough hotel soaps or remnants to be equivalent to 1 regular bar of soap. If I use Fels Naptha, it does not take a full bar. Usually, half a bar will do. I have a Kenmore Elite toploader that takes HE detergent, and this recipe works well with that. We are also on city water. Water quality does affect detergent effectiveness. Certain bar soaps may work better depending on the water quality. Ivory is usually a good, cheap alternative.

I have a friend who is a chemist by trade ... I love how you make your own detergent! I could see her doing that. She currently makes candles and sells homemade pies at the Farmer's Market!
