**Disclaimer**
MS Mom of the Week is a fun way for us to get to know the Mommysavers members. The Mom of the Week is randomly selected a week in advance of her being featured. I do this so I can contact you, let you know your feature date, and arrange to receive from you a picture of yourself and/or you and your kids to include with the survey. Having a picture included with the survey is so we can make it a little more personal and put a name to a face. This is optional of course, as are all the questions being asked. If I don’t hear back from you before your “feature” date, I will randomly select the next person and then get back to you the next round. Mom of the Week will be featured on Monday mornings. Please keep in mind you are free to answer as many or as few of the questions as you want. This entire thing is on a voluntary basis. Newbies to the board as well as regulars are welcome to participate. If you are interested in participating please
PM Christy_K_ and we will get you signed up. We look forward to getting to know you!!
Let’s get started!!!
What is your first name?
Carol
What are your kids’ names?
Jarron and Jessa
Were you ready for motherhood?
Yep. I think I was most ready at 32, and at 38, when we had Jarron,
we'd had a few losses. Ready and prepared are two different things. Prepared?
Thought I was!!
Have you ever met someone who has completely inspired you to be a better person? Can you tell us about that relationship and how it has affected you?
My children have inspired me to be a better person, because the person I am molds the way they will be.
Do you have any nervous habits? What are they?
I talk too much when nervous and my voice goes higher.I think I say inane things then, too. (Gosh, did I just say that?)
Did you ever date a guy your parents did not like? Were they right about him?
Yes and yes. But that didn't matter. I was careful because I'd already had the feeling he was a player, as they call them now. But it was really up to me to find out. I was smart enough and safe enough not to put myself in a bad situation, so it was best for me to find out on my own. When I found out he was a player, I really wasn't heartbroken because I had already started to distance myself.
What do you want your kids to remember the most about you?
How much I love them and value them in my life. How valuable they are in life and that they are responsible for, and have the ability to create their own future. They were blessed with intelligence for a reason.
What did you learn the most from your mother?
Hmmm. She loved us but was not in the position to love us the way a mother needs to. I think I learned most not to marry and be bullied by a man the way she was. That attitude probably causes problems in my own marriage because I can't stand feeling controlled and am very sensitive to issues like that.
How many coupons do you use on a regular basis? What is your best money saving tip?
I am constantly using diaper and wipe coupons. Otherwise, I use some
here and there. I will cut them out if it's for something I use constantly or
have a lot of interest in trying, but I don't really mess with ones that are less than a dollar. I'm not really organized enough to have those little pieces of paper floating around. I do have a coupon organizer, but I often find that I forget to use it and my coupons expire.
How did you find Mommysavers? Have you referred anyone here? Were you referred here?
I received an email invitation to join. At first it sounded great, but
there was a post about miscarriages, where someone started posting something
graphic about abortions and how they were done, which I thought was very
insensitive to those of us who have had miscarriages, so I stopped visiting.
Then, I don't remember exactly, I received another email that made me
check it out again. I'm so glad I did. I think if something like that
would happen again, we would all ride that person out of town on a rail.
Out of all the things the members here have offered in terms of advice, support, counsel and criticism, what have you personally benefited from? And do you remember specifically who the member was that offered that advice?
Gosh, there are so many. I remember a few pming me when I started sharing some challenges, and they were so supportive and sweet. One, I believe was Karen53. Another was Jennifer, Blessedwith6 and Annemc. Then, as we started exploring the Special Needs section, I found a friend in April, TacomaRanch. I hope I'm not leaving anyone out who was so important. I get messages from others all the time who are sharing my challenges and joys, or who are just supportive. I also get messages from those who have been helped by my posts, which definitely makes my day brighter.
Have you ever met a mommysaver?
Not yet, but I hope to!
What is the most romantic thing your dh ever did for you?
Hmmmm. That's a toughie. Right now, I would say when I see him playing very nicely with the kids and acting like he's enjoying them, allowing me to shower, sometimes nap without dd at my side or get some work done. When he enjoys it and doesn't say he's on baby duty, but because he wants to be a good father and husband and be with his kid, it's nice.
The other thing is that he and I, before kids, would have dinner at some expensive resorts. Sometimes walking around the resort after dinner is almost as nice as staying there. We have beautiful sunsets here.
Tell us five things you like about yourself.
That's tough at this point in my life, because right now, while they are so young, the kids come first.
1. I'm educated (mom and dad paid nothing), feel I'm intelligent and I don't just settle, like many do where I'm from. I was smart enough to get away from the life I knew I didn't want in a depressed town. Then, I was smart enough to get away from the cold weather when dh and I decided to change our lives and move to a warm climate. Not settling for mediocre is a huge plus, but can be a negative, because I'm a perfectionist.
2.I love my kids and want to be the best mom I can be.
3. My body is strong and when I listen to it I can solve many problems. It was strong enough to bear and nurse two children.
4. I try to be an optimist, which has become difficult in the last few years, but I think it can come back.
5. I like to help others without expectation of payback.
What hobby do you enjoy the most? What got you started on it? How would you rate yourself? Can you show us a picture of your proudest piece of work?
Reading is my hobby now. I love learning. I go from history to biography to fiction - it varies greatly. I also enjoy riding horses and yoga. I enjoy writing, but haven't really indulged myself in my fiction writing in a few years. I'm told I'm good.
How many frogs did you kiss before you found Mr. Right? Was he worth the wait?
I married at 20, so there were a few, but not a real lot. For many years, I felt he was worth the wait. We've had our ups and downs, but on the whole it was good until the family enlarged, and I saw a different side.
What is your favorite genre of music? Who is your favorite group? Have you ever seen them in concert?
Classic Rock. I also like Classical. Favorite group: Fleetwood Mac (Foreigner is close.) I've seen Fleetwood Mac and Stevie Nicks in concert, separately. I also love Linda Ronstadt.
What do you see your children growing up to be like? What career path would they choose?
My son says he wants to be a movie maker, a teacher and a Power Ranger.Recently he added the President of the United States to that list. I want my kids to grow up to make a decent enough living to be comfortable and help others without worry. I want them to choose a path that will make them happy. I see my son growing up as a bit quirky, and marching to his own beat, but helping others. He is so sensitive to the weaker people and is always coming up with new inventions to help. He also wants to invent toys, so he may just be an inventor. Little diva, she's headstrong. Right now she loves music, and with her set of lungs, I told her she better put them to good use and be a great singer (more like Linda Ronstadt than Britney Spears, KWIM?)
Is there something we would never guess about you? Some kind or quirk you have no one close to you knows about. (C’mon tell us!!!!)
My big dream was to be a singer. I took lessons, recorded, sang in clubs, etc. My dream was to be a singer rather than a "performer", and for the most part, you need to be a performer, in this age of music videos. I've lost some of my hearing and the notes just aren't there anymore.
I also thought strongly about becoming a psychotherapist.
Are there words you live by? What are they?
Be kind to those less fortunate than you are - you never know when you will become one of them.Try to brighten someone else's day. We were put here on earth to help one another (wisely). __________________
