That is actually a year from when you plant them. And it depends on the gourd. If it is an ornamental gourd, odds are it won't dry. You can go to my site na dgo to the gourd id chart and those are the gourds that will dry. They look like they are rotten (they will be all moldy) but they are drying. You can tell the rotten ones. They will be falling in. And those need to be pitched as soon as you notice them if you are drying more than one, because they will contaminate the rest. I ahd three pallets in my backyard this winter full of gourds. That way the air could get underneath them. But that was only because I had so many. A lot of the farmers just let them dry on the vine. Just don't dry them inside for obvious reasons.
