Square Foot Gardening  The National Gardening Association estimates a $70 investment in gardening will yield $600 in produce.  For our family, a small square foot garden made a lot of sense. It’s a great way for a novice to step into the world of gardening in an easy, simple way. It doesn’t require extensive care and maintenance, and the kids each get a little section of their own to care for and harvest when the time comes.  Read how we built one for around $20.

Summer Reading Programs Summer reading programs are a great way to keep your kids motivated to read over the summer months when they're not in school.  Most libraries have programs, but if yours doesn't be sure to check out your local book store as well.  Some have free story hours, events, and other fun activities.  Barnes and Noble is giving away a free book for any child in grades 1-6 who reads eight books and completes a reading journal.  Learn more...

Frugal Summer Lunch Ideas  What will you make when the kids are out of school?  Here are what our members are suggesting:

Pizza rolls, hot pockets, fish sticks, chicken nuggets, mini pizzas, sandwiches, salads, quesadillas, ramen, mac and cheese, leftovers, read more...
