Frugal Fun for Kids

What's in Store:  Summer Fun for Kids With just a few days left of the school year, moms like me may be wondering how to keep the kids busy this summer without going broke. If you don’t have tons of money for camps and lessons, you can still keep your kids active and entertained thanks to some great retail workshops and promotions.   See what Home Depot, Apple, Barnes and Noble and other retailers are offering kids this summer....

Egg Carton Animals  Maggie and I made animals out of egg cartons today. I made a ladybug with crayons and M made a caterpillar with markers. You could use whatever art supplies you have on hand: paint, pom pom balls, glue, glitter, and pipe cleaners. You could do bugs like we did, which didn't involve much gluing together, or you could glue together more complex animals, if you have patience for glue to dry.  -- Swishina

Scratch and Sniff Paint Combine 1 T unsweetened Kool-aid mix with 1 T warm water to create a scratch and sniff paint.  Repeat with different Kool-aid mixes in different colors. Paint and let dry overnight. The next day, you'll be able to scratch and sniff.  -- Deemom

Click here for more unique ideas for fun with Kool-aid, plus a coupon for $.50 off!

Work at Home Mom:  MegnandAbbysmom  Amy works as a transcriptionist and makes anywhere from $100-$400 per week. Learn more about her job, how she got started, and what perks she enjoys as a work-at-home mom.

Mommysaver of the Week:  Ellie Mae  Ellen is a frugal mom who saves by making her own laundry soap and cleaning supplies.  She also saves by avoiding a lot of convenience foods and pre-packaged items.  She even has her own Potato Stroganoff recipe that costs just pennies!  Read more...
