Frugal Summer Fun: Fan Mail What costs the price of a first-class stamp, requires creative writing, and gets school-aged kids excited to do more? Writing fan mail! If your school age kids are already saying, "Mom, I'm bored!" this could be a fun (and frugal) way to provide rainy day entertainment. My own nine-year-old just received a letter and photo personally autographed by Robin Williams. Read more about it...
Creative Uses for Empty Squirt Bottles We use the empty trigger spray bottles to play freeze tag in the summer. You essentially have to be close enough to touch so it's more similar to the original version instead of just turning into a squirt gun fight. We would also use them to play capture the flag, cops and robbers, etc. In those instances we'd fill them with food coloring and water so we could make teams (blue team and red team, for example. If you were blue, we got ya!). It also eliminated the "you really didn't touch me" fights! -- Member Karen1985
Ice Cream in a Bag This is SOOO easy... and delicious! In a small ziplock bag, put: 1/2 C. half and half (milk works too) 1 Tbsp. sugar 1 tsp. vanilla
Insert that bag into a larger, one gallon Ziplock filled with ice and salt. Shake the bag for five minutes. Kids love that part! Then, remove the smaller bag which should have turned into ice cream.
