Welcome to the Mommysavers Newsletter

Brrr!  Winter hit us with a bang today.  Gusty winds, and even a trace of snow.  If you're reluctant to turn up the heat because of what it will do to your utility bills, scroll down for some tips.

If you still haven't figured out your kids' Halloween costumes, we have some great suggestions that don't cost much at all (or in some cases, can be made with what you have at home already).  Plus, some great tips on finding deals when the holiday is over.

Happy Halloween!

Kim

Money Saving Ideas

Frugal Halloween Costumes: Scarecrow   You'll need fabric scraps in plaid or gingham to create some patches, a sunhat, raffia and overalls. Pair them with a flannel shirt, a little makeup to accent the face, and we have another no-cost-to-us costume!  Note:  Affix the patches with school glue and you can remove them, wash the overalls and use them again!

Dryer Sheets: Not Just for Laundry  If you have a frying pan with tough, caked on food - try this tip. Just soak overnight with a dryer sheet and a small bit of hot water on the bottom of the pan. In the morning, you'll be able to wipe clean like magic!  Click here to read other uses for dryer sheets

Most Frugal Meal:  If you're struggling for ideas on feeding your family for less, here are some suggestions from our members:  chicken and dumplings, pancakes, eggs, potato soup, buttered noodles, rice and beans, split pea soup, cornbread, etc.  Click here for more ideas

Ways to Keep Warm  Wear warmer clothes and dress in layers, snuggle under blankets during the day, use extra blankets at night (down comforters are great!), leave the oven door open after baking to let the heat out, open the shades to let the sun in, etc.  Click here for more ideas
