We came across a really nice crib (used for 1 year by an only child... had the best of everything...) with top of the line bedding in it. The bedding was very girly, and we were having a boy, but they insisted on selling the bedding with the crib for a total of $125.00. We bought it. (The best part for DH was that it was already assembled!!! And no TAX of course...)

Anyway, the girly bedding set was still being sold at Babies R Us and it was very popular that year, so I put an ad in the paper (no charge) and sold the bedding set for $100 bucks. (It had matching lamp, 4 wall border rolls, matching glider rocker cover, valance, light switch plate cover, the comforter, bumper, sheets, dust ruffle, pillows, wall decorations, diaper stacker, a matching mobile... everything.) The crib ended up costing us $25 with the upgraded mattress included... great deal for us and it is now being used by our third boy.

Anyway, I love yard sales and come across some amazing finds. It's so much fun, like a treasure hunt, and I don't feel too guilty spending nominal amounts of money for good stuff.

It is amazing what great things you can find at garage sales. I have gotten so many barely used toys for .25-.50 cents, unopened puzzles, etc. it works out well because then if my kids don't play with them that long it wasn't too much of a waste.

About 5 years ago I happened upon a yard sale that was close to its ending time. I was talking to the older woman who was having this sale and we were talking about kids, she had a granddaughter, my daughters age, that recently moved cross country. While I was looking at some things I heard her ask her hubby if they sold all of the Barbie stuff and he replied no- it turned out that he forgot the Barbie stuff in the garage. As it turned out they had in mint condition a complete Barbie house (had the box too!), a few unopened playsets and great condition barbies (not a hair was out of place)- I got it all for $20! That is all the money I had on me and she let me take it all for that price! That was my daughter's favorite Christmas to this day! I don't think that I will ever luck out with a deal like that again!

I have tons, but some I can think of recently:
Tiffany pin I purchased for $2. worth $100. I had it looked at when Antique Roadshow was in my town.
got some free kids furniture (2 little tikes race car beds, little tikes kitchen) which I then sold. 100% profit.
my dd got a purse which ended up having $1.00 in a pocket, it was out of a free box. I thought she took money from my purse. she has it came with the purse. it took me a while to figure out what she was talking about.
I also got a practically new Columbia jacket and snowpants for $2.00, wait, that was Goddwill, sorry.

I would def have to say so far my dinning room set. it is a very large table 3 leafs and 8 chairs. Alll for $85 ... so I think it was a steal. All we still need to do is recover the chairs.

I got DS a train table 2 summers ago at a yard sale for $15. It had some Thomas track, and other compatible track and a roundhouse with it. Great deal, and he still loves it.

It wasn't a yard sale, but at a thrift store I got a 100% cashmere Lands End sweater for $5.00.
