Any interest?

I'm reading a book that was given to hubby at Christmas. It is a novel but it is written by a guy who is predicting a total economic collapse. It was written in 2006 and it is scary how accurate he has predicted some of the government actions such as bank and mortgage company bailouts, and increased spending in programs to stimulate the economy. (Old adage: You can't borrow your way out of debt.) The book also predicts rapidly rising inflation which I agree will probably happen this year.

So while I'm hoping we will never see riots in the cities, not do I think we'll have to 'bug-out' to a safe house, as are predicted in the book, it does occur to me that it doesn't hurt to prepare a little bit for difficult economic times. (BTW, the safe house in the book is in northern Idaho so Melsb be prepared for houseguests - )

The first step would be to form a preparedness club. It is preferred to do this in real life, but we can also motivate each other on-line, if there is interest. I propose we name it "The Foundation Club" merely because that is where I'd like to focus - not on Y2K survivalist techniques - but on strengthening our basic lifestyle and economic foundations.

It is sort of like Forget the Jones (do both!) but with a focus on resources, not just money, and a nuts-and-bolts approach to physical preparedness (emergency evacuation kits, etc.)

It's funny you should mention this because a few months ago my brother decided to move to a different state. One of the changes he wanted to make in the process of moving was to become more prepared for a situation of this sort. There were a couple of books I wanted to send him to help out with that. Previously I'd seen used copies of both online for cheap. When I went to order them there were no used copies of either book available. So I assume more people are thinking along those lines?

The last stand in North Idaho!

Sounds like a great idea but this sort of thing often appeals to me, again probably comes from being raised in North Idaho.

BTW, what is the name of the book you're reading?

Count me in. I just finished reading Rich Dad's Prophecy by Robert Kiyosaki about the final stock market crash that is still coming. And I also read Joel Rosenburg's series, so I've been thinking along the lines of what to do if the world starts crashing down around our ears. What was the book you read Cookie2?

The book is "Patriots: Surviving the Coming Collapse" by James Wesley Rawles.

It was given to us by a friend who is a survivalist. We get a different book every year. I have no idea where he finds them because I'm pretty sure they aren't easily located in the local Barnes & Noble or Borders. And I think the friend is slowly grooming us to join is survival group - but on that later when we discuss community relationships later.

For me it was the TV shows called Mega Disasters. DH always knew when I saw one because he would come home and I would be working on a new list for a new disaster!
