My brother, when he was in California, had a well and the water was wonderful. My parents had a well here in Idaho and it was a royal pain. They just wasn't a high enough water flow. They ended up paying to buy a water right and bringing the water line in their house. On the bright side they still had the well and they were able to use it for watering the yard and such. For some people they work great ... for others, not so great.

We had one at our previous home. The water was w o n d e r f u l! It tasted great and was always really cold on tap. Our next door neighbor's water was gross- really rusty. We must have been on different water tables even though our properties were in the same area.

We have a well

Our water here is pretty nasty hard - we have to use a softener (which reminds me, need to get salt).

However, our cabin also has a well. Because of the watertable there, it's only 16' deep, and the water tastes phenomenal. I can't remember how deep this one is at home, I want to say between 50' and 75'.

We had a company dig us a well many years ago for $1700. We went about 80 feet down and use it only for irrigation purposes. Tweny years later, it more than paid for itself. We water our lawn and gardens for free!

I think the last I heard, a neighbor said it costs around $6,000 to dig one these days.

I don't think you are even allowed to have wells in town here?
