I'm starting a new stockpiling thread so that new stockpilers will have all the tips and suggestions they'll need to get started. Include your tips on where to find the best deals, what to look for, how to store things, organize coupons, etc.

Don't try to make your whole stockpile all at once. When I started, I got so excited that I wanted everything to be stocked up right away. Just be patient and try to get things for free or for as little as possible. You will only get a few things to be stocked up at first. But eventually it will all add up.

1. stock up on items when they are on sale. if you have coupons you save even more. when the oatmeal I like goes on sale I buy at least a dozen.

2. when i am low on an item like Prego I go to ebay and see if anyone is selling coupons. If someone is selling coupons for the brand of item you need to stock up on you can usually get 10-20 coupons if you win the bid.

3. remember Walmart matches prices from other ads. they even match generic for generic. Example: I don't like Hy Vee brand yogurt but love Walmarts. When they go on sale at Hy Vee I stock up on the Walmart brand.

4. Cheapest places to buy things are Dollar Tree and Aldis. Only down side is they rotate what they stock so when a certain item I like is in stock I buy a bunch.

5. Call companies and ask for coupons. I always do this in May or June with Heinz ketchup which always goes on sale before July 4th then I stock up.

6. Now is the time to stockup on baking supplies.

stockpile stuff that you ACTUALLY USE!

it is a huge waste of money to buy something because it is really reduced only for it to collect dust and never to be used. target clearance is that for me. i finally broke that addiction and ask myself "will i seriously use this?"

Not really a stockpiling tip but a food for thought.

If I can buy groceries and personal care items for only a few cents (like using the target coupons right now for the Market pantry mexican items and mac n cheese) I know I'll never use it or don't use that often I donate it to a food pantry. Right now my DH has a few coworkers who are really struggling because of the strike they had in Oct. and now the lay offs in Nov & Dec. I make up bags of food that we have xtra and just drop it off at their house. No one has to be embarassed because they don't have money for groceries and my kids are learning at a young age that every one struggles some times.

Now a tip. Print coupons off the internet if the stores in your area accept them. Use them on loss leaders. Ask coworkers for their sunday coupns if they don't use them. Remeber only stockpile as much as you can use before it goes bad.

I started with the freebies from walgreens. as I got good and understood the process I ventured out a little more.

check coupon policy at your fav stores. walgreens and Cub foods accept expired coupons.

donate extra surplus so it doesn't go to waste.

if you will never use it, don't buy it unless you get money back(free after rebate and coupon). then donate and use as tax write-off.
