Hey Ladies,

One unique way that I save money is by unplugging our Airwick oil air freshener in the bathroom when DH and I go to bed. I then plug it back up in the morning. It makes the air freshener last almost twice as long!

Share one unique way you save money!

I know another poster mentioned she cuts her fabric softener sheets in half. I now do that---thanks!

We re-drip coffee grounds.
When the filter basket is empty, we put a full three scoops. Next pot we make, we leave those grounds in the basket, and add one heaping scoop. There's enough flavor left in the old grounds to make the coffee just as strong as if we threw out the old grounds and started with fresh. We keep doing this until the filter basket is full, then compost the grounds and start over.

I don't do this but I have heard that people unplug the computers and tvs when not in use to save.

I've heard of people doing that too, but we don't. That would involve moving the entertainment center away from the wall to get to the socket, then moving it back every time we wanted to watch tv and again when we were done. Same thing with the computer - I'm not moving my desk back and forth across the room every time I boot up or shut down.

When looking for small appliances, I always try second hand first. My microwave we actually pulled out of a friend's trash (about three years ago and they've gone through two others since then), my popcorn popper was bought second hand, my waterbath was my mother's.

A new one for me is just having a programmable thermostat. We are trying to use the AC and the Heat sparingly

We do that too. I started doing it because I noticed I can't notice the smell after a while. If I turn it off and on it is more noticeable to me.

I learned about this Green Switch I thought this is a great idea Ed Begley Jr. talks about GreenSwitch (Watch the video) It might be costly upfront but the saving could be great.

Maybe you could put it all on a power strip and pull that forward? Then you would only have to flip a switch.

I believe you can just turn off the monitor on your desktop. Thats what uses the MOST power. My laptop doesn't have a standby mode, so I leave it on all day, but I do turn it off at night when I go to bed.
