I'll start it out. I wanted to re-do our bathroom, but not spend a lot of money. I bought a gallon of paint for $20, and was going to use existing wall decor. My total cost after buying a few new towels would have been under $50.

However, after I painted I noticed the paint bubbling up in a few spots. I popped the bubbles, and was going to sand a spackle over them. Little did I know, a prior owner had painted over wallpaper and now it was rearing its ugly head. Had to peel all the wallpaper off, and underneath was a damaged wall. Next came the joint compound. Then, we noticed a leaky toilet (from standing on it while painting, the seal came loose). My 2-hour, $50 project turned into a month-long fiasco that cost a couple hundred when all was said and done. Oi.

Oh...I am SO experienced in this department! Let see....I decided ,5 years ago, to make these great calendars by scrapbooking each page. I got a bunch of papers and things cheap, so thought it would be not too expenxive. Wrong! I spent a boat load of money in the end and never finished them. They are still in the closet, half done.

Last summer we had ceiling fans put in our house and it all of the sudden turned in to a whole new roof due to mold we didnt know we had. We went from spending 200 to 10,000 very quickly.

Car repaires always same to snowball! Start with a tune up and end up with new brakes.

I could go on and on.

I'm could go on for hours about all our projects but I have two that really stand out.
We had a leak in the shower so it had to be retiled. When dh ripped out the tile we found carpenter ants. So the entire wall and part of the floor got ripped out. The next thing I know dh has his drafting tools out and it redesigning the entire master room. Should I mention dh has no time and no money, so it took two years to finish. In his defense it was beautiful and huge! It sold our house for us.

we also had a large closet that was almost the size of a room so we decided to make it an office and do buil tin shelves from top to bottom. Well the shelves ended up costing way too much and never got finshed. We had to function in a half done room for over a year before we finaly ripped it all out and bought a desk.

I've also got a great story about a monster truck but I wont get into that. Dh has very handy and has great dreams we just dotn have the money to support them.
