Weird. Our house doesn't appraise as high as yours and we're paying $327.00 this year.

But I'm not complaining. I'd fall over dead if we had to pay $6,000-$7,000 per year in property taxes! Heck, that's what we pay on our mortgage for the year.

Low property taxes is the only reason dh and I have stayed in AL and never moved anywhere else. I know dh would love to move back to where he's from (Mass.), but there's no way in the world that I'd tolerate those property taxes.

Ours go up very little every year but they're extremely low for another 5 years or so b/c we're under an abatement plan in NYC for new condo buildings.

Guess we are middle of the row. We are in between houses this years so 2K for the old place and 3K for the new. The new is twice the size but we moved from an urban area to a rural area.

Hi, I also live in NJ, and on a single momma's income of a few hundred dollars under $80,000, I pay $6400 on my house's taxes....If it goes up more, I will have to sell my house. if my boyfriend does not move in with us...with the pity raises we are getting and medical costs going up.

I know lots of other states don't pay a lot though, like Florida where some of my family lives.

We're in MN, and ours went up too.

We just bought 2006 and since then our property taxes have gone up $500 since then. I know that doesn't seem like a LOT but for us (and this house) it is. We are agricultural and when we moved in we were paying only $800 ~ that's almost doubled now. Now, I know they reassess when homes are bought/sold but our largest jump was this last time. I asked about HOW when home values are dropping everywhere can the value of MY home go up ???

Our county told me this...they base their increases off of the bought/sold reports they have most recently gotten. However ~ their "most recent" reports are sales that happened Dec 2007 - Nov 2008. It's not always based on what the market/values are doing currently . Well, for us, it's when the FARMLAND went BOOMING because the corn farmers had a record year and land prices went up. So even though everything sucks this year we're still increased on "back info". Now ~ do you think it will go back down since the prices have since steadied or come down (even on land?) ~ OF COURSE NOT

We protest our property taxes, too. Saves a little on them. Unfortunatly, about 6 months ago, there was a vote, (which there was a huge scandal about, sinc emany of the voting places had locked their doors and wouldn't let people in) but the result was one of our taxes, the one for the school district went up 17%. So, I dread this years bil. We usuall about just under $4,000 but this year, who knows. The school tax is usually the most expensive one. A bit depressing, as we've had some major emergencies this year, including DH just having a major surgury, with a week and a half hospital stay and our furnace going out in Febuary.
