Hi Everyone,

Just found this site and thought it might be useful to chat to people who are trying to accomplish the same as me!

I spend too much of my life on the internet and look forward to chatting to you all and picking up and sharing ideas along the way!

Our property taxes are around $2000/year. Our township has one of the lowest rates around though. The sad part is we pay nearly as much on our cottage, which is worth half as much, because they assess waterfront properties at a much higher rate.

Yeah, I'm one of those CA people. Our property taxes were over $9,000 a year. This year our property value went way down (still ridiculously high compared to other parts of the country) and we have confirmation since we had to get an appraisal to do a refinance. When we learned how much less our house was worth we decided we were going to fight our property taxes this year. But guess what?! They actually went down! By a little over $1,000. So we didn't have to fight it. I'm grateful that they actually made adjustments up front. However, as soon as values go back up, so will our property tax. We live in a very average 3 bed/2 bath house. The cost of which still blows my mind, even at the lower value. We could buy 3 or more houses with cash in hand in other parts of the country. But I love it here! I grew up in IL, but CA is where I am most happy.

I live in SW Washington state and I pay $3300 per year for my taxes. My 3000 sq ft house is valued at $375k on 4 acres across the street from a lake with a partial view of Mt. St. Helens. My prop taxes have doubled in 8 years.
