No I never did and my husband never did from his parents. I would have gotten a second job before I would have asked them. Not that they wouldn't have given it to me...they would have, but because I'm real big on being responsible for myself. Now if I'd had a child that was ill or my house burned down or some horrific circumstance occurred, I would have. But not for day to day living or because I was living above my means.

Yes. My parents have gifted us money many times. They expected us to take it! It was their choice, and that's what they wanted to do. As a family, we take care of each other in hard times as well as the good. It's just what we do. Works for us. It can go both ways.

Yes! My inlaws give us $5000.00 every Christmas as our family gift. They do the same for my SIL and her family. It is meant as a gift and we always do something important with it.

Never, we make more money than either of our parents. We frequently give our parents money, they never ask for it and never would but we know they need it.

I say never but I did once when I was single living on my own at 21 I had to borrow money to pay my car payment since for some STUPID reason I wrote the check for my credit card bill as the total I had in my checking vs what the balance was for and then you can imagine what happened to my car payment I sent out ...
It was paid back ASAP THO.
As an married adult NEVER the only money gift they gave us was house warming and that was $500.00 twards my range.

I think that's different. If the parents have ample money and want to give each family money for Christmas then it's a gift. I see that different from someone borrowing money to pay their bills. JMO

this is us, too. both sets of parents are constantly in the hole financially, so we never get a break. sometimes i wish we had that kind of cushion. i hate feeling bad when i don't give money to our parents when they're in trouble, but i also hate the feeling that doing so puts us in a tight spot.

No, thankfully we've never needed to borrow money from family. We have received (and still receive) monetary gifts from my side of the family as well as Dh's side. But they're gifts.

My parents gift all of the kids (including kid-in-laws) money at Christmas - $500 if you aren't married, $1000 if you are. Every year, they say they aren't and we are totally fine, and then they slip us all a card, and we yell at them.

For money for bills, no. We will scrape by if we mess ourselves up.

We are working on a weird plan with my parents right now though - I have my truck that we use as a backup now because we can't fit more than two people in it, and we are "borrowing" my parents old truck that is a quad cab. When my truck blew the transmission when my dad was borrowing it, he paid for the new tranny ($900) because at that time, we didn't have the money. When the truck I'm using (theirs) needed $700 in work done, we paid for it as we did have the funds available. I pay insurance on my truck, which everyone is free to borrow, and my parents pay insurance on the truck we are borrowing from them. I did give them $100 for the registration for the year (it's $91). So it's complicated but all parties are happy.

DH's parents are so far in debt and gamble what little they have, so no sense in even considering borrowing or having them gift money to us.
