In your opinion, who should a ring be left to ...

a son or grandson to give to his wife as a wedding ring (meaning it's worn by a non-family member who could keep it if they divorced)

or

a granddaughter or daughter for her to wear as a wedding ring (meaning it would stay in the family but her husband didn't buy it for her or give it to her)

I would vote for the oldest grandchild.

Wether it be a grandson or a granddaughter.

I didn't think that rule of keeping after a divorce held up if it was a family ring. Just one that was bought specifically for that person. I may be wrong but if that was the case and it was a ring that was a high vaule ring I would have her sign something.

I don't think I would choose between children. It is a tough one I would prob ask my kids and see whom may be intrested in it for KEEPS not re sale.

This is similar to how my maternal grandmother did it with cartain things, it either went to the oldest or the youngest grandchild. For instance she had a youth chair that was left to her by her relative when they went back to Germany all of my Grandma's children used it along with all of the grandchildren, great grandchildren and she wanted it to go to the youngest grandchild and that is what happened.

My grandmother left hers to her oldest son who died before her so it went to my male cousin who then gave it to his wife who we don't know. When I saw it on her recently, it seemed strange that someone who never even knew my grandmother is now wearing her ring. I would have preferred if it had gone to a married or engaged female cousin so that someone who knew her could wear it.

But at least your cousins wife, is wearing it and enjoying it.

It would have been worst if it was given to a granddaughter or even a daughter and they threw it in a drawer, sold it or pawn it.

True, and it's not like I would have worn it as I already have a wedding ring.

It's up to the person who owns the ring. I don't think it should be left to someone just because they are the oldest.

I would give it to whoever I was closest to. Giving it to a grandson, who won't be the person to actually wear it, could mean more than giving it to a grandaughter you weren't close to. The grandson may get a lot of enjoyment out of seeing his wife wear his grandmother's ring.

I guess that is one of the benefits of not having a large family. We never have to make these decisions. My mother has very nice diamond earrings. She is having them remade into necklaces and one will go to my daughter and one will go to my niece.
