I am an avid reader and I was wondering what is the BEST book you have ever read that helped you save money? I'm just so tired of the same old books that tell you to lower your thermostat, brown bag it, walk everywhere, don't eat out, don't use credit cards, don't shop when hungry or tired, use coupons, etc etc. Is there anything different out there or tips you can give?

I really like Miserly Moms, but I think it is along the lines of what you are NOT looking for. It's a good book none-the-less.

Hi. I have read many personal finance books (I'm quite obsessed). Some books that really made an impression on me were "Your Money or Your Life" by Vicki Robin and Joe Dominguez and "Debt-Proof Living" and "Debt-Proof Your Marriage" by Mary Hunt. However, most books do talk about cutting back expenses or earning more as a way to achieve financial security - slow but steady - really the only way to save money is to cut back on some area you are spending money on currently. I have found in my quest for financial freedom that it was MUCH easier to get into debt than it was to reign in the spending and start living within my means. Sometimes it is difficult and I have found that going to the library and picking up one of the personal finance books gives me the drive to keep going. I want all the ideas even if it is lower your thermostat, brrrr!

My favorite tightwad tip for savings: Cut dryer sheets into thirds - 3 for the price of 1 box. Still works great and I don't feel deprived one bit!

Good luck!

I really like Miserly Moms, Americas cheapest Family, and the Tightwad Gazzette was allright. But those are probably more of what your not looking for.

I like the Tightwad Gazette series because she shows you how to determine for yourself if a cost-cutting measure is worth it or not.

I also like the tried and true, "The Richest Man in Babylon", "The Wealthy Barber" and "Think and Grow Rich".

I also like "Rich Dad, Poor Dad" and "The Millionaire Next Door".

I will have to check out those books. Thanks! I have the Miserly Moms book and I like it, but it's nothing new to me. I mean we have a tight hold on our spending now. I just don't know what else we should/could be doing that we don't already.
