If your mattress pads have worn out or torn at the sides, don't throw them away. Remove the remainder of the fabric at the sides. Cut 1 to 1 1/2 inch wide elastic to 24" for a regular mattress, 30-36" inches to a pillow top mattress (depending on the thickness). Sew each end of the elastic in one foot from the corner of the mattress pad, creating a loop and you are done! Now just loop the elastic around the corner of the mattress, tucking under the mattress. At the cost of mattress pads, you just saved yourself $30+!!
