Has anyone seen this show on Soap Net? I get a kick out of it. Made my 17 year old son watch it with me. Kids need to learn how to handle finances before they set out into the "Real World"!

Did your parents ever talk to you about money and finances?
Teach you how to set up a budget?
What have you taught your children about money and the use of credit cards?

I have seen it once, it is amazing to me how many adults there are out there who were never taught anything about handling money. My sister married a guy like that, he has so many money issues. My mom taught me how to budget, balance a checkbook, open a savings account, etc...I was also forced to pay for things out of my own paycheck once I was old enough to get a job. My son is only 2 so we haven't started teaching anything about money yet!

Georgia Mom, Your picture looks quite familiar. Diamond Head Crater in Waikiki. The only time I saw it from that angle was on the Super Ferry. I spent 3 years in Honolulu.

We don't get soap net.

NO my parents never taught me anything about money or finances. Or not enough at least. LOL

I do what I can with my kids, but I barely have enough money for myself, let alone them. I did see an episode of Wife Swap yesterday where the dd was spoiled with tons of activites, and the father was working himself to death to afford them all. SO they sent the dd to work with him so she could see how hard he worked to do stuff for her. In the end she ended up giving up a couple activities when she realized how hard he worked just for her stuff.

I've seen a few of the episodes, but I'm finding it's very repetative...LOL. I realize it's a show, but I also don't think just a week of Mom/Dad living with them is really going to make much of a difference.

I think these 'kids' really need to get their heads on straight. Honestly, it's not about whether your parents discussed finances with you or not IMO. I think most people KNOW how credit cards work, they just choose to put their head in the sand. The whole 'I didn't understand' excuse doesn't fly with me. LOL

Did your parents ever talk to you about money and finances? Yes, my parents talked to us about saving, investing, credit cards, mortgages, car payments - from a very young age. We all had investment acounts and trusts from a very young age.

Teach you how to set up a budget? Not really, my Mom always budgeted everything but she didn't really 'teach' it to us. Among my siblings, we all do it a little differently. Basically you make so much money, and you have these expenses to pay before you use it for 'fun' - that's pretty much how she would talk to us about it.

What have you taught your children about money and the use of credit cards? Yes, my kids know all about credit cards, savings and they too already have savings, investments etc

haha I wish I got this channel 'cause this show sounds hilarious!

I have to say, my parents paid for most things growing up but it was tough cause as soon as I graduated college I was completely cut off, and that was a hard transition since I would used to not paying for much
