I know it is a little early- but I am starting to gather up things for a yard sale. How do you organize everything for a yard sale- I am thinking about doing it in June or July- any tips? Where do you stash your yard sale items at?

I am also getting things ready for a sale although I'll probably do mine in April or so. The biggest tip is to price things as you pack them up that way when the time arrives that is one less step.

I also price things as I pack them up and store everything in totes. I keep two totes in my dining room closet. One for clothing and the other for toys / misc items. As I fill the totes I put them in attic or basement. The bigger items go in the attic. I am hoping to have one this year in the beginning of May so that I still have time to take any nicer summer clothing to the local cosignment store.

We also stack in totes and then the sale is over we give what is left to Goodwill. This spring my parents are having a huge one because they are retiring and reducing their "stuff". It should make for an iteresting sale. Plus I want them to get rid of most of it otherwise it is going to end up going to us. We are getting their house!

I agree!! We price each item as soon as we determine it is going into one of the garage sale tubs. Each tub is just labeled "Garage Sale", but I can see how it would be easier to have a tub for each room, for example. Good for you for planning ahead. It is so much easier to have things ready to go - rather than try to throw it all together at once. Good luck!

I usually box it up and put in our closet or to the other side of our bedroom. Here lately I've been anxious to just get the mess out of the house. I normally only make a little over a hundred dollars total after having maybe three yard sales in a year. Anyways I think that most of the stuff gets thrown up all over the house again after the yard sale after I start to have second thoughts. So this year I'm giving stuff to our local mission. I'd rather spend my time with my boys and not worrying about yard sales. If I didn't live in a 14' by 60' manufactured home and if I had a garage or basement that may be different story. It's best to get the stuff out of your homes living areas as sometimes you or your family may have second thoughts about some things.
