Letting dh out of the house with our debit card, another huge mess!

a couple year ago a vacuum salesman came to our door, and dh went crazy and bought a 2500.00 vacuum. that we hardly ever use. i was compeltely against it. but he just had to have it. i managed to payit off in 6 months. it a 6 months no interest thing. i don't know even why he just had to hae it cuz when we moved our new house has central vac and we rarely use that expensive vacuum anymore. and we had a fine vacuum before to. that was probably the stupidest thingw e could have bought. and moving to our new hosue, even though we love the house, its wonderful, it costs us twice the mortgage payment and we live out of town now so the gas money is mroe expensive to.but i wouldn't change it. i just wish we had waited a year andpaid off some of our previous debt. its a struggle now.

credit cards at one point dh was laid off and we basically used them to survive. oh and letting out mortgage get behind i managed to keep it under 3 months so we would not get foreclosed on but it was scary thank god we got a huge tax return that year and it dug us out..in hindsight i should have let other bills go not the mortgage...

Trading in my year old car for a new one! But, I wanted better gas mileage. I hate how the dealerships rip you off!

In my early 20's I leased a new Jeep Wrangler- the only way I could get it was to lease it- so I traded my nice Chevy Beretta in for it- stupid because the Chevy was almost paid off. I figure that was about a $10,000 mistake. OUCH!

I've done that too! We (okay-just me) are totally irresponsible with the credit cards BUT the worst mistake of all is buying new vehicles. We have always bought new and lost money trading each time.

Well, I guess I am blessed that we have not made too many blunders. Our only one is really a minor one in the grand scheme of things.

When we bought our home in 2001, it was incredibly inexpensive to live here. Well, five years later, it is a bit more! My father told us at the time, knowing we wanted more children, to buy as big a house as we could afford. Instead of spending an extra $20,000 to get 1000 more square feet, we went with a smaller home (still good size). Now we have a bigger family and are outgrowing the house it seems. The same house that cost $150,000 in 2001 is now $450,000! So, we stay put. We could have easily swung the payments on a $150K home at the time, but we were afraid.

Again, not a major blunder, but an "I wish we had. . . "

I know that goes against some of the living simply philosphy, but there are times another bathroom or another room would sure be nice.

The single worst thing financially for us was using credit cards like money and buying new cars every 3 years it was so bad it actually landed us in bankruptcy! And the other was not buying a house when we were first married. Now we are renting and trying to get back our credit!
