I couldn't have said it better. No one here can call you an idiot...lol. Everyone makes mistakes. We're here for support and that's what you'll get. I know it's stressful as a SAHM.

I am also a newbie. We were in a similar situation a few years back. My dh also makes six figures plus another $50,000 in bonus a year. We were living paycheck to paycheck and I came to an epiphany. This is not honoring God for the monetary blessings he has given us. It's not right to be living beyond our means. I'm not saying that we are debt free but we are much better than before. We have 5 cars (3 teenagers) and a motorcycle (dh's toy) but only one car payment, one CC (0% interest not in any big hurry ,but plan on paying it off with part of our tax return) with about $5000. on it and of course our mortgage which is only 350k, when we moved two years ago we put a pretty large down payment. We now also have a fair amount in saving, this is our current piority. Before we had three car payments, about 50+k in CC debt, plus a large mortgage. Our problem was we never used restraint when buying anything for ourselves or our four children. When we saw something we bought it. Not, do we need it? Is $150. too much for a pair of jeans? Is there someway to get this item cheaper or less expensive but comparable? My point is after all this rambling is you can get out from under debt, you may have to change your lifestyle but it can happen. Just remember it is a marathon not a sprint This website is AWESOME!!! There is a wealth of information, so many useful and practical ideas posted to save money. Also these women seem to be very supportive, helpful and non-judgemental. Good luck and keep pluging away! Sometimes you may fall but you just have to get back on the debt free wagon.

We are about in the same boat (worse in some areas). My DH makes over 6 figures also (he is a test engineer), and I have recently gone back to work 4 days a week as a speech therapist in a local high school after staying home 6 years with our triplet daughters. For some reason I thought that our debt would miraculously disappear once I went back to work. Unfortunately that has not been the case. We bought a new SUV last summer and have to pay $834 a month for our girls to attend full-day kindergarten. Needless to say, almost all of my income goes to those 2 bills each month! It is very disappointing to realize how foolish we have been with money in the past. I vow to do better this year, and DH has set up a nice spread sheet with a pretty tight budget. I hope I can stick to it. My biggest fear lately is that we don't have any "liquid" cash in our savings. Although we need to pay down debt, we also need to buffer our savings account for emergencies.

Anyway.....just wanted to say that I can relate to your issues and wish us both luck for the new year!

I know what you mean about debt - One thing that we have done is consultant a financial consultant. He looked at our entire situation and has us a financial plan that will help us create a postive cash flow each month. That might be something to consider. Our debt was mostly from a failed business. He told us that this would be like eating an elephant, one bite at a time. We are still in the planning stages. Doing babysteps everyday. Good luck!!!

Thanks for posting! I am relieved to see that I am not the only one who has financial issues!! I am new to this site, and it just helps to see that there are others out there with similar issues as your own. And that there is support. I am the mom of 3, and unfortuneatly because of bad spending habits and living beyond our means, I have to work right now, but my husband and I are determined to change our ways!!!!
