On the "side", I teach for a local Christian college. They have a program all of the state (and some surrounding ones too) that are geared for people to go back and finish their degree. It is very accelerated. Meaning the classes last 4-6 weeks long.

So, here is the thing...I have been offered to teach 3 classes. 2 are 5 week courses and one is a 4 week course. Each over laps the previous one and the first one takes me a little over an hour to get there - the other 2 are MUCH closer. I don't mind the drive as much as I mind that the classes overlap - making those weeks very stressful. I am also leading a small group ladies Bible study at church and planning to work more on my Mary Kay business.

I want the money to use for a new roof on the house. I am just nervous about taking on too much with my 2 kids as well. I love teaching - it not only gets me out of the house - but helps me "feel intelligent" again and I love who I am when I am teaching.

What would you do? Oh, and I have to give the University my answer today!

I personally would do it, it will be tough and things at your house will be crazy but if it makes you feel good about yourself its worth it and its only for a short period of time.

Just because good part-time teaching gigs are so difficult to find, I'd go for it. I can do anything for a month (give or take). If it doesn't work out, you'll be in a better position to tell the school 'no' next time.

Id do it this time too. If it proves to be too much, don't do it next time they offer. Since the time period is so short, even if it's a nightmare, it's only a few wks. Let us know what you decide.

I would go for it. Even if those few weeks are stressful for you, if I understand correctly, they will not be together since the stress will only be on the beginning and ending overlapping part. And since part of your stress will be from trying to do more with your Mary Kay business, you can always put that on the back burner when needed those few weeks. Plus, if you love who you are when teaching then I'm sure that will make it all bearable.

Just think--a few weeks of stress for a brand new roof! You will be looking at that roof for years to come with, more than likely, not a memory of the stress it took to get it.

See, I already know that I will do the last 2 of the classes - they are the closer ones. It is whether I should do the first one. I would leave my home at 4pm and not get home until 11 pmish. Because they are accerlated classes there are papers and or quizzes everyweek which means that I have to grade them. I also have to turn in final grades within a week of each class ending. With the overlap I know that the grading thing will be very difficult. I just don't want to become an extremely stressed out mommy.

If I taught all 3 classes I would make over $2200 (before taxes!).

I would do it! Not just for the money (although thats pretty nice incentive) But because I am getting cabin fever reallly badly from being in a house with two kids all the time, and I cant wait til my fall semester starts and I am out in the real world more.

Good luck!

But how long will the overlap (stressful) time be? If it's only going to be for a week or so, then I'd definitely say "Do it!" but if it's going to be for a month or more then I guess you have to decide how badly you need the money. Is there any way you could grade your papers during the day? If you didn't do the first class, could you still afford to get your roof?

I would do it. If for no other reason, than the intellectual stimulation. I have found myself getting a bit down lately because I have no intellectual outlet right now. Everything is kid-oriented (my business is as well!) And I need some adult intelligence! So, I say "Go for it!"
