I have a 14 yr old boy and my advice is to start saving every extra penny now for the teen years. My DS eats ALL the time.

I figure about $400 a month on food and that is generous. There are always at least 7 people living at my house. My grandson is here every other week and my daughter occasionally. Even if I just figure with the 7 people, that is less than $15 per person per week.

My food budget is around $200/week. There are 6 of us here, plus I serve 35 breakfasts, 35 lunches, and 25 snacks per week to the daycare kids. I have no idea how that works out per person. A rough guesstimate would be about $20/day to feed myself and the kids during daycare hours, which leaves $100 for my family for suppers and meals on the weekends. Which works out to be less than $20 per person per week. My husband brings leftovers for lunches and we rarely eat out, maybe twice a month.

wow- we spend about- well i spend about 40 dollars a week at the grocery store if that- some weeks it is between 20 and 25. we hardly eat out at all- if we do I use coupons. I have 4 in the house all week and my DSD on weekends

I only budget 200.00 a month for food.
yikes! 200 a week seems like you'd be eaten some dang good gourmet food

Not sure if it was my post you were referring to here, but $200 a week feeds a family of 6 plus 10 daycare kids. I serve 178 meals in an average week, snacks cost less than dinners of course, but it averages out to be $1.12 per meal. Not real gourmet here LOL

We are a family of 6 with 3 kids still on WIC. WIC helps a lot with cereal, milk, juice, eggs, etc. I try to budget about $100 a month on food. Just for kicks a while ago I found out online that we would possibly be eligble for over $600/mo in foodstamps. Wow, we could really eat then! We don't eat meat very often, except in cassaroles, stir fries, etc. so that helps out a lot. We don't go out to eat but a couple times a year. One of my kids get taken out a week for pizza with Grandpa so that is a nice treat for them. We don't eat like kings but we do try to eat pretty healthy. I know as my kids grow up the food budget will go up, I am trying to save my pennies now for the days when I will have 4 teenagers!!

$30/person/week for DH, DD, and me. I can't really include DS since he is only 3.5mo and is nursing. We've really cut down on eatting out, but not completely. And some weeks we slip into old habits. It would be nice to get it down to $20-25/person/week.
