I get soo many hand-me-downs for dd! My cousin gets them from her cousin and passes them to us when she's done and we pass them back for her younger dd. I have learned to send over half the clothes back because I just don't have anywhere to put them. Therefore, I spend very little on clothes for dd.

Now ds is another story. I have no source for clothes for him, so I bargain hunt for his clothes: clearance, goodwill, consignment and ebay. I just finished going through his clothes (and sold alot to a new MOM). I had bought way too much for him and have realized that I dress him the same outfits over and over. I am going to adopt the 1 outfit per day with a few to spare mantra. This means that with my bargain shopping I've already done I will probably not have to buy him clothes, except pajamas (why are they soo hard to find and soo expensive?), until next summer!!!

I wouldn't say DD has too many clothes, but she does have more than she needs. Her clothes all fit in a 2 drawer dresser with her dressier clothes hung behind her door. DD use to get a lot of hand-me-downs from her cousin, but DD started catching up in size and I'm having to supplement more. Plus, length-wise, she's right on target for her age (turns 3 next week), but weight-wise, she's only 24lbs and I'm terrified she's going to hit a growth spurt so I tend to buy a size or two up. This year, I've started refraining from buying DD a lot of clothes. We just don't have the space. And like a lot of you have mentioned, DD ends up wearing the same outfits over and over again. I also tend to be a bargain shopper too, and so far, I haven't paid full price for her clothing (usually anywhere from 75%+ off). I have also made a list of clothes I have bought her dividing up by size and season so that when I do go shopping, I can refer to it.

I'm so glad to see this post! I've been telling myself for months that I need to stop buying my DD clothes. For me though, the issue is about me, not her. I LOVE shopping for her and just handling her clothes. Does that make sense? Ever since I found out that I was having a girl and started receiving little outfits for her when I was pregnant, I've loved to just go to her room and rearrange her clothes. I'd take them out of the drawers and admire them and refold them. It was soothing and relaxing and it made me happy!

Now, she's 21 months and I still do it when I have "down-time" (what little I have). With life so busy with the child, marriage, house, job, dog, etc. I've found that shopping for her is the one thing that I do for myself that I really, really enjoy. And it's not just shopping, it's just like when I was pregant, it's actually soothing to me to do her laundry. I just love handling her little clothes! It's my relaxation. I don't take bubble baths, I don't scrapbook, we don't go to movies or eat out often at all, I totally buy store brand everything, I use coupons, etc. so that's how I justify it.

BUT, it becomes sort of a ethical issue after a while doesn't it? Anything in excess cannot be good.

I am European and I guess i have followed the auropean thinking. when i buy my kids some clothes it is uaullya 6-7 a time and that is it, 6-7 sweat shirts and sweat pants, jeans, socks (t-shirt from the summer will be worn under sweatshirst) and maybe 2 shoes and that is it for the fall/winter. I have never buyed them that many clothes and each season chenage go through their old clothes and see what they can wear this season and save the rest for the baby.

But I think what has hit me hardest is that dd especially has SO much cute stuff that I am not even able to enjoy it all. She has some things that I really like, but each morning I think: no, she can't wear that cute outfit again because she has to wear of these other 47 cute outfits before she outgrows them, which is insane.
I could have written this post. I really, really need help. I'm sitting here right now forcing myself not to go shopping because I know they have clearance all over the place and WE DON"T NEED IT!! All three of my kids have summer things that still have the tags on them. I could not do laundry this entire summer and my youngest would still have things we couldn't get to. It's just silly. I just don't know how to stop doing it because I'm a sucker for a deal. And since I can do it financially it's so hard to stop. I really, really want to fix this but I'm not sure how. I try to stay away from the stores but it's hard to do because I love to shop and it seems I'm always running somewhere for just one thing or a gift or something and I come out with a huge bag.

My DD got so much when she was born! I have stuff she wore once, if at all. Then had another DD, so it's gotten some use. Now I am expecting a boy, so I am clearing out all the little girl stuff.

Wow! Is there a lot! My dining room is full! I have been trading, Ebay, tossing out what is too stained, and donating.

My sis is going through her stuff (has 2 boys), I saved everything that I have a boy can wear, have been to garage sales, and Grandma has picked up some stuf too. I think with a boy maybe there is more to mix and match, maybe???So I am hoping not to fall in this trap with him too!

My 4 year old is very picky. No jeans, nothing nylon, etc. So her closet is FULL and she wears probably 15 outfits in there!

DD7 has a good assortment, but we need to try on and see how stuff fits for back to school. She is super tiny, I still use a diaper pin in her pants that are too big! Poor thing! DD4 is chunkier, she is slimming down though. So I wonder if she will fit in the slims her sis wears now!

I am hoping to weed out a lot, especially for my younger DD, she is in preschool, so she can really wear playclothes most of the time.

I feel like I spend time searching for hangers--I hang everything but pjs, undies, socks. And closets are stuffed, so I feel like laundry is such a chore!

Someone mentioned pj's being epensive, if you have a Carter's outlet near you, I normally get footed pj's for like $7.50, and 3 pc. sets (top, shorts, pants) are way cheaper than the stores.

Each of my kids have a 5 drawer dresser & if their clothes don't fit in there, then it's time to declutter.

We do only keep in there what fits at that time & that season.

Not to add to anyone's clutter, but Old Navy has their summer PJs/nightgowns on sale. Some where marked from $3.99 to $7.99 with an extra 50% off making them less than $2-4.

my dd has a ton of pants and shirts, so this spring i went through everything and put the ones she won't wear away to give to my friends dd who willgrow into them in a year or so. same with the shirts. now my dd has 7 pairs of pants and 10 t-shirts and about 4 heavy sweater. and i had to cut back on her panties. she had 23 pairs of panties:O now she has 10 pairs. my grandma thinks that you can never have enough panties so she is constantly buying dd panties. dd always says "More Panties mom???" whenever she gets them in the mail from g-grandma.

I also love to shop for kid's clothes, love to handle and organize them... it is relaxing(or used to be) and even soothing at times. I know just where you are coming from. Also, with two little kids, going to Target or the mall can be a fun trip out as well as a sanity saver, and if I'm in a store, I'm going to be looking for a bargain.

But somewhere I crossed the line into having TOO MUCH. I was going through dd's winter clothes for the fall and realized I had something like 10 pairs of leggings, 15 turtlenecks, 20 LS shirts, 6 pairs of overalls... just way too much of everything. It was disheartening. So I have to change my ways.
