We are trying to pair down on what we have. Here's the story.
We have a 2000 Toyota Tundra Paid off, a 1990 Toyota Stationwagon - Paid off, DH uses for work and I have a 2004 Toyota Highlander, we owe about 12,000 on it. Now DH has a 2001 Camry at work but needs a motor.
This is what I want to do, get rid of all the cars, keep the 2001 Camry and get it running and buy a SUV that the race car can tow, that's the only reason we've kept the Tundra. I've been searching for a Sequia which we could pay in full and have no car payment, but nothing less then $25,000. We have about 10,000 equity in the Highlander and can get about 16,000 for the tundra.
DH mention to lease a car for 2 or 3 years since right now they are having a low interest and low payments and nothing down. I don't really wnat to lease, but want to get down to 2 cars. Should I go the lease route, bank the extra money from the sale of the cars for our emergency fund, since we have none, or keep the cars the way they are and in another 2 years my Highlander will be paid off. Then worry about funding the account. Right now we're paying 500 a month to get the highlander paid off and I LOVE this car, it's perfect for me and us!! I just don't want to have to worry about never getting ahead and not being able every not have a car payment. The goal was to keep the Highlander until it fell apart.
I like an SUV so that's why we have it. Everyone seems to be grea with money and finances I need to make a decision about this and just torn.

If you like the Highlander why don't you keep that and put the money you make selling the other cars toward paying that off? I would keep that and maybe the 1990??

My car cannot tow the race car and trailer, we need a biggert SUV or Pick up, because of Tork or what ever it is. I'm even working on him selling the race car an getting a street car, which I wep ould LOVE To do, and if we went that route then yes I would just ke. I ep the Highlander. But my highlander can't tow his race car. If he did go racing I would drive the 2001 Camry since it's alot safer then the 1990. The truck just sits in the driveway unless he goes racing.

Have you priced the Sequoia? It's expensive, as is the gas and maint. It's a nice vehicle, but do you really need to spend that kind of money? The Highlander is nice. Why not keep just the Tundra for him - he can use it for work and towing the car, and the Highlander for you. You could cut the insurance, too, with getting rid of the others. I've leased one car and will never do it again. It was a waste for me. It seems like you like to keep your cars and run their life out, which is great, so I don't think a lease will make you happy. But do you really need to get a new car at all? It seems the pickup and SUV are enough for you, as long as he can keep the Tundra up maintenance-wise. If you are just getting worried about maint. costs, wanting a newer vehicle, maybe selling outright will give you more cash toward another vehicle.

I totally agree...and if you're looking at it from a price standpoint, the Sequoia is nice, but it's not very economical (I worked for Toyota and even with Employee pricing, we bought a Dodge instead!)
I guess I just don't get WHY you need a new car if he uses the truck to tow the race car and that's it, and you love the highlander....like Desertmom said, why not just sell the car?

MHO about leasing a vehicle is don't do it! I just don't get the point of leasing a vehicle- you spend so much money on it and you have many rules and stipulations and in the end do you plan on giving it back to them or buying it. I personally would rather out right own my vehicles- but then again my DH can fix pretty much anything with our vehicles! I have a friend who used to lease vehicles all the time and now she says she regrets it big time (they leased about 7 different vehicles before they bought their 1st vehicle- a used minivan).
Honestly, I would check into the possiblity of buying a used truck or SUV before leasing a vehicle. I would personally get rid of the vehicles that are in not as good "shape" and put them towards wither paying off the vehicle you have- or putting a chunk towards paying it off and with the rest start an emergency fund. HTH!

If the Tundra can tow the race car- then keep that one and your Highlander and get rid of the other 2.
IMO- DO NOT LEASE!! ALso why sell the highlander to just make more payments. YOu have that one paid off in 2 yrs- you like it so keep it.
Another option is sell all 3 cars and buy a good inexpensive striped down truck that will be your dh car and can also pull his race car and you still keep your highlander.

I agree with not buying the new vehicle. You pick the one of the four that YOU want to keep, and he keeps the one of the four that HE wants to keep (or needs). I'd get rid of the other two. No point having four vehicles you have to pay insurance on and maintain with only two drivers in your household. THen take the money from the sales of the other two to be car payment free. JMO

I agree! You keep the one you want, make him pick one for him and sell the others! Use the money to pay off yours!!!

Just remember ...
You can't buy your way out of debt.
Sell the car you're not driving. If you need the third vehicle, you need. It is paid off, so keep it.
