Call the IRS Tax Help Line at 1-800-829-1040 or visit their website at IRS.gov for free tax help.

This was on the website:
The Free File program is a free federal tax preparation and electronic filing program for eligible taxpayers developed through a partnership between the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and the Free File Alliance LLC, a group of private sector tax software companies. Since Free File’s debut in 2003, more than 15.4 million returns have been prepared and e-filed through the program.
Free File allows taxpayers with an Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) of $52,000 or less in 2006 to e-file their federal tax returns for free. That means 70 percent of all taxpayers – 95 million taxpayers – can take advantage of the Free File program. more information:

Another tip - most of the programs that let you file the federal return free then CHARGE you to file the state return. Our state has its own website to file your state return FREE on it. Check around to see if your state does too. Don't pay for something you can do for free!

We don't qualify for free filing BUT we still use the filing software for free (on the irs.gov website) then file by snail mail. Like another stated, once the federal taxes are done it is easy to do the state filing for free, too.

We don't qualify for it, but most people do, it's a great and FAST service! Does anyone know a place to file free with no income restrictions? Or file cheap?

Taxact online lets you use their basic program and e-file for FREE. I used them last year and they worked out fine.

I REALLY REALLY want to try and file myself thsi year rather than use a tax service like we do every year and end up paying a couple hundre. BUT dh is afraid I'll screw it up since he had disablitity for 3 months last year. I don't think its too much more paperwork, but I'm nervous about it as well. I DO NOT want to pay someone, but not sure if I should attempt to do it myself. I've never done it before.

Try it & then if you aren't comfortable with it you can send it to someone else. I do our's every year. Go through the instruction book that comes with the form, it walks you right through everything or go get Turbotax. It asks you questions, you answer them & it plugs everything in where it needs to be. Let us know how it goes.

We use TurboTax and it's VERY easy. Like Susannah said, it asks you questions along the way.

Good luck!!
