My step-mom's brother and SIL are both CPA's so they do the family's for free. If we want them to file our taxes electronically so we get them back faster we pay just $20.00!!! They both work for the State and also have an office in their home to do taxes there during tax season.

This is our 4th year in a row, and it's been nothing but a blessing.

We have someone do ours. The first year we were married my mother in law did ours and did fine, but we have so much more now to worry about. I would be careful of Turbo Tax though, I have no experience with them, but the lady who does ours told us she gets a lot of people that come in after they have done turbo tax and she has to fix them.

we have a CPA, have used the same one for the past 7 years...she actually charges less than any of the prep places like H&R, Jackson Hewitt or any of those types..

We also use a CPA. Our taxes are so complicated, I don't trust anyone else. Between dh being a truck driver, my in home business, a rental property, I just don't trust those heavily advertised tax places. If your taxes are pretty simple-they're fine, but once it gets the slightest bit complicated-they will screw up. We had it happen and luckily we caught it before we actually filed and took it to the CPA. The difference was a couple thousand dollars in refund money. Be careful!

Last year we used Turbo Tax and I just did it myself but this year dh decided that we just HAD to go to a professional b/c we bought a new home. BIG MISTAKE!! He takes us to
H & R Block. Boy are they a rip off!! We ended up spending 2 hours there and they didnt even itemize! They told us we didnt have enought deductions. We ended up paying over $200 for something I could have done myself. Never again will I listen to dh when it comes to filing out tax return.

I'm also a turbotax user. Since it saves the your file from the previous year it is very quick to prepare. I also use the professional version. I have been using ebay as a business so I could write off expenses. However, for various reasons I stopped selling on ebay. I recently started sewing and think I will use that as my business going forward. If someone pays me $2 to hem their pants I can count that as a business. I expect to get a few bags of clothing from the people at my DHs office for repair.
