Do any of you have mortgage life/disability insurance? Our mortgage company recommended a company but the rates seem really high to me, over 25% of our monthly payment per month. I was just wondering if anyone could recommend a good company.

I think for most people it is a bad idea. You can get regular life insurance A LOT cheaper in most cases than buying mortgage life insurance. If you already have life insurance you can probably bump up the amount to cover the mortgage for a whole lot less than buying a new policy anyway. I have never bought any life insurance just to cover a loan.

I agree - mortgage insurance is a waste of money. Just get life insurance and that will keep you covered.

No mortgage insurance ... we just got life insurance for the same value of the house, that way if they house is paid off, we can use the money on something else.

We actually don't have anything. I would prefer to put our money into a savings, where we know for a fact that we would get it all back. I know many people who paid into life insurance and dropped it (or even were dropped cause of age or certain stipulations that were not disclosed entirely!) because the premiums got too high and they have nothing to show for all the money they paid into it!

Right now we are only 2 years away (hopefully less!) from paying off our home and saving for a new home. If something terrible was to happen I know that I could easily pay it off and just have to worry about cover the taxes. I hate to sound morbid but me and my dh have talked about this for a couple of years now. 2 Years ago my dh lost his bf (and my good friend)- he was in a car accident. I became bf with his wife before this had happened and they did not have any life insurance or even on the mortgage. She is okay though- she has enough in death benefits to cover her mortgage and living expenses (which is not always true in most cases!).
