Is the Diaper Genie really worth the money? I've been watching prices at my work (Fred Meyer) and ours is $28 at Wal Mart they have the knock of playtex one which is 19.94 but the refills alone are anywhere from $3 to $5, and I hear they really don't keep the smell down that much.

Nope, I just use the regular garbage and empty it frequently.

I had one and really liked it but we were not ones to take out the garbage a lot back then. If you are going to take trash out anyway daily then maybe not worth it.

I had one with my first DS and I found it expensive to after awhile to get the refills. If you have 2 in diapers, it would get very expensive quick!

With my twins I got a Diaper Champ. It used regular kitchen sized trash bags, so I did not need to stock up on the Genie refills all of the time.

My twins have outgrown the changing table, so now I just use the trash and poopie ones go in a plastic grocery bag and into the garage trash barrel.

Good luck!

Leah

I just hung a plastic grocery bag on the door to the garage in our laundry room and put the diapers in ther and when I got three or more I just tied the back up and threw it in the outside garbage. We did have a diaper genie w/our first but we hated it!

I almost bought a Diaper Genie at one point but when I looked at them at Babies'r'Us I thought they looked like they just weren't very well made and just plain not worth the money. I ended up with a Diaper Champ instead (much cheaper and no expensive refills) which I am perfectly happy with (it does smell sometimes though now that I've had it for awhile). If I have a particularly nasty poopy diaper I will put it in a plastic grocery bag and knot the bag before putting it in the Diaper Champ. I empty it about twice a week. In my opinion there isn't a product out there that WON'T smell after a year or two of poopy diapers (I think it has something to do with the plastic absorbing the odor of dirty diapers). Just my opinion though.

We just use a plastic grocery bag and take it out daily or when there is a stinky one. I just hate the idea of spending money on something that is just meant to be thrown away.

I personally did not like the odor the Diaper Genie bags gave off, let alone adding a poopy diaper to it.

I used it for the firstborn, but got rid of it with the second!

My sis had the Diaper Champ and loved it. I just use grocerey sacks and take my trash out regularly.
