I know it sounds nuts but, they do sell it and I was wondering if anyone uses it? And if it covers perscriptions?

The reason I ask is because we just spent $246.00 on a vet bill for my dog, Emily,( a bloodhound) to get treated for a growth on her lower eyelid, and she still has to go back on Monday for the surgery, and who knows how much that is gonna cost us!! They have to use anastiesia(sp) and she weighs over 130#!!! Yikes!!

Now I know that we couldn't get insurance for this dog, but if/when we ever get another one, would it be worth it to get the insurance??

Oh, & BTW, we spent $750.00 on her last summer, b/c of an abcess on her tail and a strange growth on her neck.

My in-laws had it on their two aging labs and it was wonderful. I do believe that it did cover prescriptions. If you have any questions you would like me to ask them just pm me.

We don't have it for our current dog, but if we were to get another dog, I'd seriously consider it. There are some really good programs out there. Check with your vet and do some research online. Good luck!

Do some through checking. My sister is a vet and she has said there are plans out there that are simply not worth the money. The last company my husband worked for actually offered it as part of his benefits package.

Well, I don't exactly...but sort of!! LOL I pay PetSmart's veterinary clinic $22 a month for a year...and during that time they cover all regular "stuff"...tests, shots, getting her fixed, $1000 policy if she dies while with them for any reason, etc. It is a wonderful plan...and on top of it, I get 15% off all rx's, and extra stuff..toenails clipped, etc.

Thanks for all the reply's ladies, I am going to research this and see what I come up with. We can afford to pay for this kind of stuff right now, but what if in the future we have a dog with issues and we cannot afford it!! Scares me!!(we are a dog lovin' family!!)

Keep your fingers crossed on Monday, for Emily's eye surgery!

It's a gamble whether to get it or not. I have friends that have used it and it's been a savings, and others that it was a waste of money. If you have a large pure bread I think it would be more in your advantage as they tend to have more issues.

I have never had it. I looked into it and if I had a breed that would have problems yes but I have always had mutts and so far never had to many problems. I just budget for their shots and pills.
