We did the allowance thing and I was the one it didn't work for. We each got 100 a month and I always felt the need to spend it all and dh would spend like 2.00 on the dollar menu at McDonalds for the whole month. So, we don't do that anymore and I actually spend so much less because I don't want to spend "our" money on frivolous things

Thankfully DH isn't a spender. He asks me for cash when he is out, and if he REALLY wants something I ususally don't question it. He rarely does spend on anything but necessities.
