I feel your pain...we have $2.81 in ours and dh doesn't get paid til next Friday! Thank goodness I babysat this week and will be getting paid $120.00 tomorrow! Whenever we pay our mortgage we're always left with just enough for gas and groceries, but it's never been this low!

That's my question too. We use quicken, and I think it would be a huge headache trying to balance. In response to the original post, I feel your pain. As of yesterday we had 1.54 in our account. Thank the Lord, dh got his milage reimbursement check! I was sweating it.

I round up and have for years, I also keep a running total of the actual amount in the bank too, at the bottom of each page in my register I have 2 totals-one is the rounded up amount and one is the actual amount.

I had Bank of America for a while, but now there isn't one close to me either. I didn't like that they rounded it up for me automatically then. Of course I might feel differently now.

My mother does hers this same way...its her hidden savings.

I simply make a mark somewhere on the line and put a number (the dollar amount I rounded up) so I can always check back and know at a glance how much the original was and what I've done. So my balance shows the amount that has been rounded. I do it this way b/c if dh knew how much extra there was he would use it as his excuse to spend that much more, defeating the entire idea

Thank goodness I am not the only one I have $10.00 and some change until next Friday when I get paid again. Going to be a long week but I've gas in the car, groceries in the cupboards, and meat in the freezer so I know we'll be ok.

Are you sure you're not having the bank look at MY checking account?? We seem to live there! Fortunately, there has only been ONE time in the past two years or so that we've ended up in the red at the bank, but it's only because I also round up and have that cushion. My register shows a negative balance for at least two weeks out of the month. I guess as long as the bank doesn't show me with a negative balance, I'm good, huh? We do have overdraft protection, but there is a $25 charge for every transaction charged against it...so I DO NOT want to have to use that. It beats paying the $25 bank fee AND the fee at the store for a returned check AND the embarrassment, but we do all we can to avoid using that overdraft protection.
