Way back when before online banking, I used to call the automated teller everyday and balance our account. We use online banking now, but I have to admit that I've gotten very bad in balancing.-worried- I check both our checking/savings and our Costco Amex account very frequently, but haven't actually balanced our account in about 3 months.

Needless to say, I know that we're WAY off (not to our favor), and I'm just too tired and lazy to go back over 3 months itemizations to find the discrepancy. I'll just do a one-line adjustment and hopefully, will get back on track again.ray:

I balance ours every 2 weeks at payday when I pay the bills. We also use online checking which makes it much more convenient. I also use Microsoft Money which makes balancing the checkbook a breeze.

I check my account online 4-5 times a week and I balance it against my checkbook to make sure I have enough to cover everything.

Banks have made mistakes before that you have to watch. You can't just assume that online banking is 100% accurate. JMO
I do the same. I have caught many errors and frauds keeping a close eye on my accounts, CC and checking through online banking. I do this almost daily. I download all my accounts onto Quicken, then reconcile them once a month againts the statement. I LOVE reconciling my accounts, for some odd reason I find it enjoyable. Probably because it's the only time I use my brain or oatmeal as I call it. That is what it has become from being a sahm for so long.

I do it weekly. I have to balance it before I can write out bills. Plus...DH is ALWAYS asking what's in there.

i do it daily then i go over my monthly statement and i use money manager executive also...i used to work for a credit union and i know how easy mistakes are just operator error and i know that people who did not balance there checkbooks then found an error and would come in were a nightmare for our book keepers and our policy was they would balance it for you once for free then after that you got charged by the hour... just a thought for those who never balance.

I learned the hard way to balance every three-four days and check it against my online account. I am in charge of the finances and my husband was using his debit card and writing checks, forgetting to let me know about them. There are days I wish we had seperate accounts! I also check my online account every few days to make sure we weren't charged something incorrectly, which has happened a few times.
