We're not allowed to put our outgoing mail in our mailbox due to the meth problem here. It's a pain, but we have no choice, we have to take them to the post office or one of the blue boxes (yet, they installed no blue boxes in our neighborhood). I wasn't happy when they did this - isn't that what our taxes are for? Why not make the boxes better? I hate those cluster boxes anyway. But, I guess it takes getting scammed only once to learn a lesson.

I don't have the option anyway, we only have a post office box. I live in a small town where there is no delivery.

That's scary though, if I did have a box I'd think twice about putting my outgoing mail in it now.

I only recently put a Netflix movie in the mailbox for the delivery driver to pick-up. I was concerned but all went well.

I pay my bills on-line. I can't remember the last time I wrote a check.

However, if you DO use checks, next time you order some, change your name to first initial and last name only then make sure your signature card at the bank is your fullname - first and last. When the thief washes your checks, they don't know your real first name and just might sign incorrectly!

Sadly, this won't prevent the check from getting cashed. I used to work in the check clearing department of a bank and they only check the information on the check if it is over a certain dollar amount (like over $1000). A name discrepancy will only help to prove you were the victim of a crime.

Wow-that's scary. I have gone to the post office before where it's mailbox was over flowing. I actually took out a couple of handfuls and brought them inside to the empty box. I could see the names of utility companies...you'd think people would be more careful.

I pay many online, but do pay a few through the mail. I can see our mailbox and there are very few people who come down our street. I do sometimes take it to the box though.

I always take mine to the post office, and I try to bring my mail in as fast as possible. They will take your mail looking for credit card numbers and the credit card offers. You really have to be careful these days.

Thanks for posting this and that do help me to realize about put our outgoing bills in our mailbox - my husband and I rarely put our bills in our mailbox because we have our bills being automatically draft every month and that do help us a lot to save $$ on the stamps/checks too. I realize it is very sad when the thief steal anything from our mailboxes and not realize they hurt us when that happen. That do happen in my hometown in Roanoke, VA too and hard to prevent this happen, ya know.

Darn credit card offers, i swear i get atleast 10-12 of those a week!! It's also best to open them and put them thru the paper shredder to avoid anyone digging thru your garbage and stealing these order forms and opening an account in your name.

I rarely ever mail out bills anymore...most of them are paid online...but when I do...I use my mailbox. I also do the blockbuster.com and I place the movies right in my mailbox. We don't live near in a area with a lot of traffic and we live next door to a water treatment plant...we have kinda our own private security guards...they do drive bys every 30 mins. They look out for our house for us too. Someone would be stupid to try to mess with our house...lol
