I came to the realization that I am going to have to get a part-time job & work a couple nights a week for the next 6 months to a year in order to get my $1000 emegency fund in place and pay down my debt enough so I can live off my current income. Plus the portion of my oldest sons college tuition that I must pay per divorce decree... BTW this is where a good portion of my credit card debt is coming from plus stupid purchases...As a single parent this will be challenging but I am willing to do this for peace of mind.
This brings me to my question where should I begin to search for a good part-time job. At my current FT job I work 8:00 - 4:30 M - F, I could start work @ second job 5:30 - 6:00 pmish and work a couple nights a week plus the weekends & holidays. What do you all think of pizza delivery for a woman? Our local Papa Murphy's had an add in the paper I think I will pick up an application.
Any and all tips, wisdom, & suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

I would try a hospital, a steak house type restauant (good tips!), a grocery store, or any type of store or business where the discount would be beneficial. :D

Thanks for all the great PT job ideas everyone!!!
Grey I work for our local school district which decided to close two schools and is currently discussing further budget cuts. No extra hours are available and I don't forsea any in the future w/further 2007-2008 budget cuts.

A lot of people in our area who need this type of income, work at Walmart (bonus here is the discount), sit with the elderly on the weekends, or pickup tutoring students several nights a week. These types of jobs are always available in our area and pay relatively well! Just some more ideas . . .

Is there a store you could use a discount at? (I've heard, but don't know for sure, that Walmart doesn't give employee discounts). I've recently applied at Babies R Us - having 2 little ones I know the discount will come in handy - we know of at least 2 big purchases coming up already.
Personally I would do pizza delivery as a last resort - there are always stories of the delivery person getting robbed, and in our news recently a delivery person was called out to a vacant house and beaten, he died due to a stroke or heart attack (don't remember which) as a result of the attack.

I am also looking for a second job. The job market really varies, depending on your community. My dh and I have applied to every place we can think of (restaurants, stores, etc.). Unfortunately, we live in a very small town, and there are few choices. Also, talk with your friends in the town. Oftentimes, word of mouth is the best way for employers to recruit new employees. Best of luck to you!

I don't know the area where you live, but I have a good friend who picked up hostessing at an upscale restaurant a few nights a week. She gets paid minimum wage, but also gets tip share so ends up making about $8-10/hour. For her, its not as stressful as serving and the hours are flexible. Its not gonna make you a millionaire, but maybe enough to help out with what you need.
Also, tutoring could get you decent monsy if there is a demand for areas you are comfortable in.
I, too would avoid pizza delivery. between safety and wear and tear on your vehicle i'm not sure that it is worth it except as a last resort.
Good luck
